This was so super yummy. I put my own spin on it by adding garlic powder and carmelized the onions before adding to the mix. It was gone the day after Thanksgiving! Really is so much better then the canned soup version! You must try you will not regret!

MIL asked me to bring the greenbean casserole for Thanksgiving, so I thought I'd give this a try. I read the other reviews, and made a few modifications...mixed in a cup of the cheese with the beans and sour cream...sauteed the onion and a handful of chopped baby portabellos...mixed crushed ritz with some french fried onions for the topping...and it was a huge hit! All the family loved it, said they want it for Christmas dinner too! Oh, and I made the casserole on Tuesday night, without baking, stuck it the fridge till thursday and baked it 35 minutes, it was great! I give the recipe 5 stars, even with my modifications, because without the base recipe, I'd have had nothing to play with!

Everyone really liked it. I used fresh green beans, should have kept them crisper before I baked it. Also should have put something crispy on top after.

Delicious!! I made this for Thanksgiving and got my dad and brother to actually eat veggies! I followed the recommendations of previous reviewers and reduced the sour cream to 3/4 C, reduced the salt to 1/2 tsp, added black pepper, powered garlic, and mixed half the cheese (1 C) into the beans. I probably didn't need any salt as the cheese was salty enough. Also next time I might add some half and half to the beans since it was a little too thick and not really "saucy" but still so good. Definitely a new family favorite!

Nope didn't like this, sorry. Onion way too strong for me, as was the sour cream. Sounded really good, though.

This was fantastic!! I made two of these casseroles for the 25 people we hosted for Thanksgiving and every bite was gobbled up. I made one with canned beans and one with fresh beans that I chopped into about 2" pieces and cooked on the stove until slightly soft before adding them to the recipe. Both were delicious but I personally prefered the fresh beans. I printed the recipe for several who asked for it and will cook this again at Christmas if not before. YUMMY!

This is fantastic! I doubled the recipe, used french fried onions on top instead of the crackers, omitted the onion, and used about 2/3 of the cheese (mixed 1/2 of the cheese into the casserole).

This was fine and they ate it all, but my family asked me to go back to the kind on the can of french fried onion rings.

This is a great recipe that my family has made several times. I've made it with fresh green beans from the garden and also canned beans. Fresh is definietly the way to go.

I tried this recipe for the first time on Thanksgiving, and was very nervous about not doing the "traditional" soup recipe for the green beans. I have to say that this recipe is so much more flavorful than the traditional recipe and I will never go back. Even my husband who is not big on green beans said it was excellent and had seconds!! The only change I made was using the fried onions on top instead of the crackers.

I will never make the stuff from a can again! I loved this green bean casserole. The cracker crust was wonderful. At first I was worried about the cheese; it just didn't seem like something that would work in green bean casserole, but I couldn't even tell it was there. It was so much better than the green bean casserole I have been making for years. Thanks so much for a wonderful recipe!

So good! I was a little anxious about not making the traditional green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup and french onions on top, but I have to say this was delicious. My husband said it was the best he's ever had. I think I still might prefer the cream of mushroom version slightly more, but this was definitely a nice change.

My family raved over this, better than the traditional green bean casserole. It was very easy to make. I didnt add the Ritz crackers. The cheese on top is an excellent addition!

I tried this for Thanksgiving as an alternative from the traditional casserole, especially after seeing all the great reviews. This was a bust, not very good. I followed the recipe to a tee, and did not add as much salt, and the flavor was not right at all. I won't be trying this again.

It's missing something for me and I can't figure out what. I left out some of the sour cream as other suggested and it was still creamy. I also mixed cheese in and added it on top. I even added those french fried onions but still not the same as the kind made with soup...
