This bread did not turn out the crispy crust like I'd hoped for. However, It was easy to make, this was the first bread I've made from scratch. This bread would be great for sandwiches.

This bread was good but not quite what I had expected. Other reviewers stated that this bread works well with regular self-rising flour but I used it and didn't get what I expected. I will make this again and use the bread flour instead to see what the recipe is really supposed to taste like.

Oddly enough, I tried doing something weird-- I left out the oil, sugar, and salt. I thought they would turn out just ok, but they were great! I loved them (because I love bread for its plainess), so if you want actual bread, just follow the recipe.

I made two loaves instead of three. I live in FL so it's a lot more humid here. Because of that, I used 5 cups of flour (3c white, 2c wheat because I ran out of white) and then baked it for 33 mins uncovered. The top got just enough brown and the center was so moist. I will be using this recipe a lot!

I've been making this bread about three times a week since I discovered it a month ago. It is fantastic bread! I follow the directions for the most part, except for lowering the yeast to two tbsp. I don't like a strong yeast flavor and it still rises beautifully. I have large loaf pans so I always make either two loaves at a time or one loaf and buns. The buns from this bread are amazing! I roll out a rectangle from the dough and love to put either cheese and bacon or dried onion down and then roll up. I then take thread and slice the log of dough like you would for cinnamon buns, place on a baking sheet, let rise and bake at 350 for about 20 mins. Perfection! Edit Dec. 16 2009- Just wanted to update, I still make this bread several times a week! I love it! I've actually started to lower the yeast even more than two tbsp. I make it with 1.5 tbsp and it really tastes much better. Other than that I don't change a thing. If you haven't tried to make this bread yet, please do! You won't be disappointed. It's the only recipe I use!

This was my first time making homemade bread. I made Jam the day before so my family was excited to try this. It turned out great. Thanks for an easy recipe.

My daughters are devouring this bread while I write the review. We made a loaf for a friend as a thank you today, and they thought it smelled so good, I had to come home and make one for them. We're slathering it in the Cinnamon Honey Butter from this site (modified with 1 extra cup of butter), and it's melting into the warm bread for a little slice of heaven! My Grandma was the breadbaker for the whole family and lots of friends as well, but she passed away without anyone ever getting her recipe. This comes pretty darn close.

I made this in the bread machine and used 1/3 of the recipe for my machine. It worked perfectly and was incredible. I'll be using this again! Next time I may bake in my oven rather than the machine for a better shaped loaf.

Between this recipe and Amish White Bread, I can't decide which I like best. I can say that I love that this makes 3 loaves. We don't buy bread from the store any more, so this works out well - we usually use one loaf/week and freeze the rest. The dough was probably the best I've ever worked with - so soft and smooth! I took it out of my KA and kneaded by hand after it was thoroughly mixed. I added 3T of vital wheat gluten. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

I baked 2 great big loaves instead of 3 smaller ones. We really like this recipes. Very easy to do, and the results are great. Only problem is that it gets eaten up real fast! Next time I will make 2 loaves and some hamburger buns. Very nice dough to work with. I think I am going to try the cinnamon loaf that some reviewers had done.

Made this earlier this week and it turned out great! I made 2 loaves and 1 pan of dinner rolls, the only thing I did different was I did not have quite 3 T. of yeast since I had 3 yeast packets but it rose great, and I added all the flour when mixing it and let it rise twice. This made wonderful toast and I'll be sure to make it again.

Awesome bread recipe. I was using another one from this site but it had more oil and sugar. I was trying to find something a little less sweet that would make good sandwich bread. This is fantastic bread! I did make one alteration though, I used 6 cups of bread flour and 2 cups of whole wheat. I also skipped the sponge part and just mixed all the flour in and kneaded by hand for about 5 minutes and it came out perfect.
