I sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on apples and again on the top crust. The best I've had since grandma's in 77!

Been making this recipe for quite a few years now. Always requested, always a hit. I do add the cinnamon...besides the flavor, the aroma is out of this world. And about the butter? Some things in life are best left old-fashioned, and this is definitely one of them. I mix some of the syrup with the apples before putting them in the crust, then pour the rest on top. Never a complaint! When I offer to make something different, everyone wants the pie. I raise my peeler to Grandma Ople!!

Sorry Grandma Ople. The extra fat (1/2 cup butter) in the filling is just not necessary. The apple flavor is almost second to the butter/sugar taste. It's just not a five star recipe, IMO. The inside is soupy (and I followed the directions exactly as written). My advice to anyone looking for a delicious apple pie is to stick to an old fashioned sugar/flour/cinnamon/apple filling and you won't be disappointed...as I was in this recipe.

I thought this apple pie was very good although I did make some changes based on other reviews and the fact that my husband requested cinnamon in the pie. I used Jonathon apples, salted butter, and added about 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla to the sauce however, after reading reviews I may add the cinnamon directly to the apples next time. This is my first attempt at apple pie and was a success but, since I have no other apple pie recipes to compare it to I am temporarily giving it a 4* with the possibility of a future 5*. I'm sure the pie is equally as good without the cinnamon and vanilla. The reason I believe this is because I have made apple dumplings with no or little cinnamon and they are wonderful too. I will be making this again.

Yum! I made this pie last year and didn't like it. Afraid I have been used to frozen Mrs. Smiths for so long. Then I decided to make again, but saw from a review on another apple pie recipe that it is best to use a variety of different apples. I used Macintosh, Jonathan & Cortland apples. I added 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp vanilla to the apples. I poured most of mixture over apples and reserved about 1/4 c to put on top of crust (did not do lattice, but just cut slits into pie). It was so good! Thank you for the recipe and thanks to other reviewers for their helpful tips! Cooked 15 min at 425 and then 35 at 350 and it was perfectly done!

The best, the best, the best apple pie ever. I have made many many apple pies in my 15 years in the restaurant but never one this good. I have made this pie with any kind of apple, we have 3 different trees in our yard and everyone was great. Hats off to moshasmama

Flavor is the best. I made this pie 3 times trying to perfect the texture and having a little hard time. The pie keeps coming out runny but the flavor makes up for it.

Outstanding! I agreed with one reviewer and added cinnamon (and a touch of nutmeg) to the tossed apples. The best apple pie I've ever made.

Not like this recipe needs anymore reviews but I loved it so much I could not resist! I did what other reviewers suggested, added 1 tbsp of vanilla extract and mixed 1 Tbsp of cinnamon onto my apples then poured the caramel syrup over them before dumping into the pie plate. I baked it on the bottom shelf of my oven uncovered for the first 10 minutes and then covered the edges with aluminum foil.

This was very good, but you should have seen it. I'm not good at lattice crust but did love the pie. I sprinkled the top with some cinnamon before I put the crust on. Will definitely make again.

this is the perfect pie for someone who doesn't want cinnamon apple pie. The lattice crust is a must- its practically candy coated at the end- I usually sprinkle a bit of sugar on top just to take it a little further- but even with out the sugar- what a perfect pie! The best!!!
