This recipe is fabulous! My boyfriend and I had a surplus of apples (we picked 1/2 a bushel and that turned out to be a lot) so we ended up making 3 pies- all using this recipe! We definitely made some tiny changes- adding more spices to both the apples and the sauce. Also subbing in cider for the water was an awesome choice! The lattice top definitely worked better than the other way though. Definitely a keeper!

Hands down the best apple pie I've ever made it my life and really very easy. I took others advice and tossed the apples with apple pie spice before putting them in the pie shell, but other than that, followed the recipe exactly. This will be my new "go to" apple pie recipe!

This is the first online review I have done in my life. I found this apple pie to be just that good. I added 1 teaspoon cinnamon, a dash cloves and nutmeg to the sugar/butter solution. I was worried when the sugar/butter seemed too thick so I added the apples to the sugar solution before adding it to the bottom crust. After cooking the sauce was just perfect! I used tart apples from a tree nearby. I sprinkled the top with cinnamon sugar. It was amazingly good. Blew the previous apple pie I made out of the water!

It came out of the oven looking super yummy. But then, when we started eating it, I realized the apple were still completely crunchy! Everything tasted great, but ahhhhh...really embarrassed to have served it like that. Granny Smith's sometimes are harder to soften. I'm going to try this again because of all the great reviews, but next time I'll sautee the apples in butter before adding them to the pie.

This is absolutely the best recipie for Apple Pie! I use a brush to lightly apply the mixture to the entire lattice crust. I also sprinkle some cinnamon on the apples as an added touch! Thanks Grandma Ople! I wish I knew you a long time ago!!

Awesome recipe!!! Doesn't get much better than this! While I love the rich syrupy version created by Grandma Ople, I like my less sweet, less rich variation as well. I fill a plastic bag with the sugars, flour and about 1 teaspoon cinnamon and the sliced apples and shake to mix well. The sugared apples go into the crust and I evenly dot the mixture with about 1/4 c. butter, cut into pieces. I omit the water; the cooked apple juice creates a sauce of perfect amount and consistency. I top this with a whole crust. This apple pie is not as candy-like, but the flavor of the apples is really enhanced!

Mmmmm this was a hit! I tossed the apples with about a tsp of cinnamon and poured more than half of the caramel over the apples and the rest over the top crust. I'll be using this again- thanks =)

This pie is just okay, nothing special. I've made lots of apple pies, and this one is pretty bland. My daughter added pumpkin pie spice to hers after it came out of the oven, and hubby added cinnamon sugar. In any case, thanks for sharing. Glad others enjoyed it.

Ok, can I tell you I've never made an apple pie completely from scratch before? I think the fact that my husband loves his Mom's apple pie has always deterred me. However, he loooooved this and said it was even better than "Mom's". I used Basic Flaky Pie Crust from this site. I used gala apples and added some cinnamon and apple pie spice which I just couldn't go without! I also got ahead of myself and poured the topping on the apples before I put the top crust on. Oops. It was amazingly delicious though! Thanks for sharing the recipe! I will definitely have this as my standard apple pie recipe now!

I have to confess that I really didn't care for this recipe at all. I followed the recipe with the exception that I added cinnamon to the apples. After the hour of cooking time, the apples were still too firm but any further baking would have burned the crust. I didn't like the sugar syrup blend that you pour over the pie, it just detracted from the flavor of the apples, I definitely wouldn't make this again.

This recipe is fairly simple and comes out terrific every time. After going apple picking, I use a few different kinds of apples and it is a huge favorite.

Fantastic! My husband gets a little stormy when I experiment with one of his favorites and looked very cross when I told him we were trying something new. Boy, did he backtrack quickly!

WOW. This pie is fantastic. I read the reviews before I made it and added 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon to the apples. Honestly, it probably would have been perfect without the cinnamon. I also used a combination of granny smiths and galas (to cut some of the tartness). I didn't do the lattice - instead, I put vent slits in the top pie crust and brushed on 2 tbs of the butter/sugar mixture that I had reserved. Served it a-la-mode and it was a hit!

The best apple pie ever (and I have made and tried a lot of them!) Awesome! Only addition was adding cinnamon, a little flour and lemon juice to the apples. Fantastic!

I cannot WAIT for our next family get together so I can bake and bring this pie. It is BEAUTIFUL to look at with the gorgeous rich brown color from the sauce on the pastry. I followed the recipe exactly as written and am thrilled with the results. I used Pie Crust IV (which was a wonderful pie crust recipe) and was really, really happy with the results. The taste is absolutely terrific, creamy sauce, and perfectly flavored tender apples. Lovely! :)

This is absolutely the best. I used tart apples fresh from an apple tree instead of grannies & it was wonderful. Got gobbled up in no time!
