I'm a beginner cook and have made this recipe 3 times now for different occasions and everyone LOVES this pie, young and old. I definitely added the tablespoon of vanilla, large pinch of nutmeg, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon for flavor. I would also recommend mixing the syrup with the apples instead of pouring it over the lattice top. Otherwise it's a fabulous recipe to make, even if you're 21 years old :)
