Wow! The best scone I have ever had. I never really liked scones before but these are a keeper. I usually substitute the raisins for 2 cups of blueberries. They are a little hard to get the dough mixed with more berries than the recipe calls for, but they sure taste fantastic. The family absolutely loved them. I make a frosting of cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and several drops of milk for my husband to top them off with as he is a frosting lover

These are the best scones you will ever make. Amazing. I roll mine in white sugar when they come out of the oven for a little something extra...They are so very yummy I always double the recipe.

Have made them twice and they turned out good both times. Made with chocolate chips so it was a bit messy.

These are fantastic. Like another reviewer I did an orange spice with vanilla extract, orange extract, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger, I was out of cinnamon. I also added in raisins. Fantastic!

I followed the recipe exactly except for the raisins-added chocolate chips instead. Made them once without cream of tartar (didn't have any) and didn't miss it. I now usually add some vanilla extract but this is an excellent recipe just as is! The key is to handle the dough as little as possible and to have the butter very cold. Our guests loved it! It tastes like a chocolate chip cookie...almost.

I opted out on the raisins and instead added white chocolate chips and about a half cup of crushed frozen raspberries.....amazing!

These scones come out so moist and are so changeable. I bought dried cherries and an orange and added the zest of half and orange and 1 tsp of orange juice along with 2/3 a cup of dried cherries and they came out deliciously. The sour cream really does the trick. Do not over moisten.

Great base recipe, although was very dry on the offset. I added OJ and fat free half and half to get a dough to form. Great base for all flavors though....made orange, chocolate chip scones. Nice flake to them, dense and moist. Better after a day of sitting a mellowing.

Excellent recipe! Moist & tender! I followed other viewers suggestions and added the additional 1/2 cup of sugar which I am glad I did. I also didn't realize just how much these spread. I made six HUGE chocolate chip scones. Had to bake them a bit longer but it was well worth it! Next time I plan on trying some different variations, such as blueberries, raisins, cranberries

These were great. They turned out moist and fluffy. However, I made the mistake of adding some thawed bluberries we had picked a couple months ago. The first couple batches were fine but by the end my scones were purple from all the burst blueberries! But they were still delicious! Next time I might just use chocolate chips or cranberries though. :) I used the Easy Devonshire Cream recipe from this site to go with. People raved! Thank you.

I was expecting great scones after reading the glowing reviews. First time I made them, the dough was crumbly and dry, and the scones weren't very good. Thinking I may have done something wrong, I tried them again, this time adding orange extract and craisins, as others suggested. Again, they came out crumbly and dry, and the dough was really hard to work with. Sorry, but I won't be making these again.

Great recipe! I followed Lucia de Wagner's tips and these came out perfect. I did however use 1 c. of sugar and I did add the optional 1 c. of raisins.

Delicious!! Need I say more! I did cut down the sugar a bit but they were still terrific. The only problem I had was they did not hold their shape in the oven but I may have made them too thick so I think it was my fault! Didn't really care what they looked like because they were sooo good. Thanks for the great recipe!

When I stumbled apon this recipe, I was actually looking for a blueberry-cream cheese scone recipe, so I knew right away I was going to alter it about. I was worried about putting the cream cheese in with the blueberries, but they turned out fantastic! I followed the instructions posted by one of the top reviewers, as well. When it came time to add the blueberries and cream cheese (I added half of one package), I just used a knife and "cut" them into the dough. Immediately after I pulled them out of the oven, I drizzled with a cream cheese icing which I just stole from one of the cinnamon roll recipes from this site. These were exactly what I was looking for and tasted just like the ones I used to eat from England when I was a kid. Very scrumptious! Thanks for the great recipe, and I look forward to trying other ingredients with this as well!

These were awesome! Insead of raisins, I added fresh raspberries and white chocolate chunks, as well as drizzling a powdered sugar, milk and vanilla glaze on top. Will definitely make again. Oh, and I made these at 7,700 ft. elevation while at a family reunion, and don't usually have good luck baking at that elevation and they turned out awesome! Very pleased. :)

Heavenly is all I can say. This is my first attempt at scones and I am well pleased. They are light and flavorful. I did add the teaspoon of vanilla and a little sugar on top, but did everything else as written. I can't wait to try these again with other things mixed in.
