I have made a variation of this recipe for many years and it has always been a request for potluck dinners. However, my recipe didn't call for the chili sauce. Out with the old recipe and in with the new. This is fabulous as written. Serve as an appy or with hot cooked rice for a main course, add a veggie side or two and dinner is on! One important note - use real maple syrup, not maple flavored pancake syrup.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this recipe. It's just a matter of taste. I made it and reduced the amount of the allspice. I also used just a smidgent of horseradish because I don't care for it but the rest of my family does. This is a very good recipe.

These were delicious. I took the advice of others and only used 1/2tsp of allspice and everyone loved them. thought these did end up not staying together too well but it turned into a magnificent sloppy joe.

Really yummy and great for a party. I used ground pork instead of beef and didn't use allspice at all. I thought the sweet/spicy balance was right.

Pretty good, The meatballs themselves are great, and the sauce is really interesting (Love the maple!) But too much Allspice. If I make again I'll just put 1/2 to 1 tsp in.
