This is a deep fragrant Gingerbread. I covered it with rich Orange Curd and zest. Delicious!

I made this exactly as written except for adding some extra spice- I LOVE nutmeg and cinnamon!! :) It was excellent! I have been desperately craving warm gingerbread with real whipped cream on top, and it really hit the spot :).

This was very tasty and moist. After my mom tasted it, she wanted to know where I'd gotten my grandmother's gingerbread recipe from, because this tasted like what she remembers her mother her mother making when she was a child (which is a good thing!) The only changes I made were to replace the water with milk and add 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, and a pinch of cloves, as other reviewers suggested.

Have made this recipe twice. The second round I actually used it to build a gingerbread house. It was awesome. I used an simple orange glaze between the two layer house. My house was pretty but more importantly it was perfectly edible and enjoyable.

I made this for our 2011 Christmas Eve Dinner. I did end up modding the recipe a bit as suggested by Gmoe and added one smaller Honey Crisp Apple. Then topped it off with a cream cheese frosting. Absolutely Delicious!!

This was easy to make and very moist. It did not last long in my house.

I've made this twice and it was great both times. The second time I added additional spices as recommended by others (1-1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch of ground cloves, 1/2 tsp nutmeg), and it was better this way.

giving this 4 stars due to simplicity primarily as well as being very easy to make when one is in a huirry. Overall the cake itself was very subtle in taste but when adding whipped cream, which I also added a bit of cinnamon to it to give the whipped cream a little more flavor, the cake was tasty light and moist. I would make it again but next time will try incorporate a few more spices to make the cake "pop" with flavor a bit more.

Great recipe with the addition of 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and substituting the water for milk. Exceptionally moist and the cream cheese frosting compliments it well.

Have a lot of friends on diets or with diet restrictions so I made some changes to this awesome recipe: 1. decrease sugar to 1/4 c 2. replace 5 T butter with 5 T unsweetened applesauce 3. replaced flour with equal amount whole wheat flour 4. decreased salt to 1/4 t 5. added 1 1/2 t cinnamon and 1/8 t cloves per GMoe Turned out great, is higher in fiber, fat-free and dairy-free. thanks Ellouise and users!
