Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar. Add molasses and eggs; mix well. Combine the dry ingredients; add to the creamed mixture alternately with water. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
  2. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
