I have made this recipe for years but I use 8 eggs and I use 3/4 of a cube of unsalted butter. Another way to make it is to snip 1/2 lb. of bacon into the bottom of your baking dish, put it in the 350 degree oven and cook it to your desired state of doneness. Then pour over the egg mixture and bake. Very good as well.

A family favorite! We use only 2 T. butter, whip batter with beaters or blender, then bake at 425 for 20 minutes. Serve with lemon juice and powdered sugar! Yum!

This is a great recipe, but my mom makes it truly fabulous with buttermilk syrup. mix 1 1/2 cups white sugar, 3/4 cup buttermilk, 1/2 cup butter, 2 TBSP corn syrup and 1 tsp baking soda. Bring to a boil, cook for seven minutes, then stir in 2 tsps vanilla. YUMMY! It's perfect on these pancakes.

This is the perfect brunch food. Works equally well with syrup or sausage and hash browns. Super easy to make. I did notice mine starting to rise more on one side then the other so I turn the dish half way through cook time. Some women at my work were doing an little int'l food day so I made this. It didn't last 10 mins and I had 10 requests for the recipe. Half of them made it that weekend for their families and they all loved it. My teen son made it for me and then ate half of it. Truly great.

MmMmMm...! Wow! I love German pancakes! I still have them, and had them when I was a child, well, im still young, but I don't really know the recipe very well off of the top of my head, but the VERY best, is if you have fresh butter (homemade or store bought), homemade maple syrup & optional powdered sugar or whipping cream with fruit.

I make this often with the following changes. Add 1 tsp cinnamon, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Use only 1 or 2 eggs and 3 tablespoons butter. I bake it in a 9x13 baking dish at 400 degrees for ~23 minutes. Grate nutmeg and dust top with powdered sugar after removing from the oven. My family loves this dish for breakfast, even my picky 2 year old! Often I substitute in up to 1/4 cup wheat germ for 1/4 cup of the flour (1/4 C wheat germ + 3/4 C flour). Sometimes I add a well-mashed banana to the batter. It comes out great every time, with some variation on the texture.

This is a familiar and loved recipe in my house. My best friend's mother used to make this for sleepovers, and it brings back lovely memories. I use 1/2 whole wheat flour, and the texture is still great!

Ok I never give bad reviews but I was bummed after I made this! I have made German pancakes before from this site but couldn't remember the name. After making this I realized there is no way this was the same recipe. This was very dense and almost dry because it was like solid egg. I just searched everywhere trying to figure out what I made before and finally found it. Big GErmans!! That, to me, was much better. It is about the same but only has 4 eggs and some lemon juice in it. I remember it really fluffing up and just tasting amazing. I had even made it with egg subsitute and still liked it, though not as much. I could this 2 stars because my daughter liked it but the other recipe was much more to my tastes.

I learned this recipe years ago when studying German, but lost it. I started looking around and happened upon this one. I'm thrilled, it's just as I remember it! I added a tsp of vanilla to the batter. Drizzled my portion with a little honey and my husband ate his with powdered sugar. Thanks for the recipe, Bren!

You really need to specify what type of baking dish is medium sized. I should have just made a nice omelette instead. But, for some odd reason, I decided to make this. What came out of the oven was a nasty, doughy, butter-saturated mess. When I put it back in numerous times to see if all it needed was more time, it never cooked thoroughly. After an hour and a quarter, I gave up and threw it away. Advice: use the eggs for something else. Or just make a normal pancake.

I wasn't exactly sure what this recipe was supposed to be but we tried it anyway. It was a weird combo of egg and flour.... I thought it was ok with syrup, but my boyfriend said I better stop trying new "concoctions" for breakfast!

Man this was a GREAT german pancake mix, I gave it a lemon syrup, by mixing fresh squeezed lemon juice, and honey warmed up...GREAT and of course topped it off with sifted powdered sugar!
