DIRECTIONS
Prepare cake batter according to package directions; set aside. In a small mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add eggs; beat on low speed just until combined.
Pour half of the cake batter into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Gently pour cream cheese mixture over batter. Gently spoon remaining batter over top; spread to edge of pan.
Bake at 325 degrees F for 70-75 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 1 hour.
For frosting, combine sugar, milk, butter and egg yolks in a heavy saucepan. Cool and stir over medium-low heat until thickened and a thermometer reads 160 degrees F. Remove from the heat. Stir in vanilla; fold in coconut and pecans. Cool until frosting reaches spreading consistency. Frost cooled cake. Refrigerate leftovers.

Hi, I made this cake for my familiy's Oktoberfest party, and it was a hit. I don't really care for chocolate cake but everyone raves about it. It was then requested a few more times, and everyone asked where i got the recipe. This recipe was very easy to make. I used a 9 in spring form cheesecake pan, it was a little full but it worked great! but i had to allow for extra baking time, as it was thicker than the pan suggested. the frosting took forever while heating it to 160F, so I heated it to a med high heat rolling boil to let it thicken, constatnly sturring to not let it burn. I then put it in a bowl and set it aside for travel. the whole adventure took about an hour prep and 2 hours of baking time. Super easy once you get the hang of the frosting. Thanks for a great recipe.

This cake is incredible! I have made it a couple times and it always gets rave reviews. I wish it weren't so sinful (loads of eggs, sugar, cream cheese, etc. - and the ingredients can be a little pricey, too) because I would definitely make it more often. The only change I have ever made was to use walnuts instead of pecans once and it still tasted great.

This was fabulous! It took a lot of prep but well worth it. I didn't realize how important it was to constantly stir the frosting while it is cooking. It burned a little on the bottom but it still turned out great and no one could tell. This was my gift to my father for Father's Day and it was loved by everyone. It does take a lot of eggs though. I will be making this again!

I made this for work - everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. I didn't make the frosting - I just used a can of Pillsbury coconut pecan frosting. It was delicious!

Sinful, decadent and not for the health conscious! I have made a lot of cakes from this site and thought I had come up with some winners, but my husband declared this one the best one so far.

Very good cake. I was hoping for more of a cheesecake center though. The cheesecake basically gave the cake moisture and flavor.

Not a recipe that I would make again. It was just OK. Did not really like the cheesecake flavor with the cake.
