Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups chopped, peeled apples
  • 1 (15.5 ounce) can chili beans, undrained
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds
  • 2 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • Sour cream

Directions

  1. In a Dutch oven, cook the beef, onion, green pepper and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the tomatoes, water, apples, beans, tomato paste, almonds, cocoa and seasonings.
  2. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until heated through. Garnish with sour cream if desired.

I did not follow the recipe exactly...I left out the nuts & beans. There was a bit too much... MORE
