1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped green pepper
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 cups water
2 cups chopped, peeled apples
1 (15.5 ounce) can chili beans, undrained
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/3 cup slivered almonds
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon pepper

DIRECTIONS
In a Dutch oven, cook the beef, onion, green pepper and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the tomatoes, water, apples, beans, tomato paste, almonds, cocoa and seasonings.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until heated through. Garnish with sour cream if desired.

Nutritional Analysis: 1-1/2 cups equals 340 calories, 13 g fat (4 g saturated fat), 48 mg cholesterol, 773 mg sodium, 37 g carbohydrate, 10 g fiber, 25 g protein.

I did not follow the recipe exactly...I left out the nuts & beans. There was a bit too much chili for my liking but it may be the right amount had I added the beans.
