I LOVE this drink!!! It tastes like a "melted orange creamsicle." I have lost count how many times I have made it now. I never thought to just freeze an orange. I have been using navel oranges and they seem perfect for this. I hadn't read the recipe the first time and threw them in the freezer with the skin on. If I soak them in warm water about a minute the the peel softens enough to cut off while the orange stays frozen. I also cut the orange into ice cube sized pieces to make it easier to blend. My grocery store does not have ff vanilla ice cream, but they do have half the fat and I use that. I do leave out the optional orange zest. If the oranges are slightly out of season, I just add a little bit of Truvia and it works fine. It is a delicious way to eat a piece of fresh fruit and get some fiber and vitamin C in a cold drink. My blender will also fit up to 4 times the recipe, which is nice.
