Delicious crowd pleaser. Substitute turkey bacon, roasted pine nuts, (tho the cashew idea sounds good too) craisins, skinny Miracle Whip, wine or balsamic vinegar to taste, with less sugar (or Splenda) to make the dish even a happier meal in the eyes of your doctor. Make a big batch, dole out small portions and see how many ask for more!

This is my new favorite food! Definitely cut the sugar and mayo in 1/2 though

Super yummy! I only use about half the onion though, otherwise it's way too much.

This is an excellent refreshing salad. I might lessen the sugar the next time but not by much

Great salad and easy to make. I usually buy broccoli salad at an expensive upscale supermarket. This was better! Next time I will add less sugar as this was a little too sweet. Thanks for a great recipe!

Outstanding base recipe but surprise (!) here's my modifications, that in my opinion improved the end product. No raisins. I don't believe raisins have any place on this planet and ruin everything they come into contact with. Replace raisins with sunflower seeds or pine nuts. I also added shredded red cabbage which combined with the broccoli adds great flavor and even more crunch. Reduce the 1/2 cup of sugar as this overpowers and over-sweetens the overall flavor of this wonderful salad. The longer you chill this salad the better it gets. Enjoy as it truly is a crowd pleaser. Thanks for posting.

Simply the BEST! My family has loved this recipe for years. I have cut the sugar way down to 1/8 cup and added a small amount of celery seed.

I haven't made this recipe yet, but it sounds delicious and I will make it when I go to the store for brocolli. Here's something that helps me. I cut the raw bacon into small pieces with scissors before I fry it. Doing it like that you get nice crunchy small pieces instead of crumbling it after where the pieces are different sizes and not so crunchy.

We love it! I used fat free miracle whip instead of mayo (all I ever have on hand), and I prefer it on the first day, as the broccoli is more crispy.

I was given this recipe years ago and had misplaced it. So happy to have found it again! We like it substituting a head of cauliflower for the second head of broccoli.

I had something like this in Vermont at a family picnic. Thanks for the recipe. I did omit the onion (not a big fan) also added raw cauliflower and sliced baby carrots. Wonder how grapes would be with sit. Definitely a keeper.

I used sunflower seeds instead of almonds. I also omitted the red onion as I was trying to make it a little more child friendly. This recipe is awesome. I will make it again and again I am sure!

My whole family loves this recipe. I did tweak it just a little bit -- I use sunflower seeds instead of almonds and about 1/4 of the amount of red onion in the recipe (I find raw onion to be too strong, but a little is good). I made it for the first time for my daughter's second birthday party last month and I've had 3 requests for it since then. Definitely a winner!

This is a YUMMY salad. My husband wanted a broccoli salad and I'm sure he will love it.......if it's not all gone by the time he gets home! It said to chill it, but I couldn't wait to dive in!!

This is fanastic. I took it to two bbqs and it was gone both times. I did cut the mayo to 2/3 and put a 1/3 sour cream. I used light mayo and light sour cream. I also used turkey bacon.

I've made this recipe for quite some time, but I had a small head of cauliflower cut into bite size pieces and then just use 1 head of broccoli. My family loves it.

My bf and I LOVE the broccoli salad at Sweet Tomatoes, and this pretty much is it! I didn't really measure anything- used about 1/3 bag of fresh broccoli from Costco, about 1 handful real bacon bits, 2 handfuls dried cranberries and 1-2 handfuls of cashews (the best!)... I won't eat onions unless they are cooked, so I omitted those. For the dressing, I used 1/2 FF mayo and 1/2 Light, and started out with only 1/4 cup sugar. I'm glad I didn't put in the full 1/2 cup sugar, cuz this was SWEET enough! I did add one extra Tbs of vinegar, and it turned out perfect. THANKS for an awesome recipe!!

I though I would give this a try, I"m not a huge fan of mayo, but my bf is. I thought the dressing was ok, could have used some Dijon mustard or something, but I thought the mixture of items were pretty good. I might tweak it somehow next time. Good stuff though!
