I love this recipe! I used a brioche loaf and sliced it myself. I added some margerine to my cooking surface to prevent sticking. The balance of spice and texture was great and the brioche added an amazing richness.

Very easy to throw together and the spices add such a yummy taste. Used thin sliced bread and did NOT submerge into batter- just quickly dipped and added to my hot pan. My nephew (3) and son (9) gobbled this toast up in no time at all.

My husband made this for us using Multi-grain bread (which is thinly sliced but dense in texture). It came out very tasty. He didn't like how thin the mixture was--evidently other recipes we've tried have been yielded a thicker mixture. He was worried the bread would be soggy inside, but it wasn't--was perfect :)

I made this using 4 slices of Texas Toast which used up all the egg/milk mixture-perfect for 2 people. I omitted the spices and my husband said it was the best french toast he ever had. I served it sprinkled with powdered sugar and warmed maple syrup.

Very quick and tasty. I don't know why these people thought it took so long to cook... I did med-high heat, and turned the heat on before starting to prepare the batter. Hot pan led to fast results.

Absolutely wonderful classic French Toast recipe everyone must have!! I love the combination of all of the spices (and occassionally will a little clove). Keep in mind that if you use thinner sandwich bread to lightly dip it, do not submerge for it any length of time or it can turn out soggy (in this instance use a lid to help it cook). This is definitely a keeper recipe =)

Good french toast! Reminds me of my mom's version (she made french toast a LOT when I was a kid). I am not a breakfast person. Don't get me wrong... I love breakfast foods. I just can't stomach them early in the morning so I usually end up skipping breakfast alltogether. My fiance has had a taste for french toast lately, so I decided to whip up a batch for us. Boy I'm glad I did! This was delicious!!! My only complaint was that a couple of my slices of french toast were a tad soggy in the middle (totally my fault). I should have "lightly" dipped my bread slices in the egg/milk mixture instead of "sumberging" them... I ran out of the egg mixture after dipping only 4 slices!!! To compensate for the sogginess, I browned everything really well (turned the heat up to high). One thing to note: Be sure to use thick bread for best results (I used Texas toast slices). Oh, and use all of the spices called for, including the vanilla. It REALLY makes a difference. Served with sausage links and fresh orange juice, this made for a very filling meal to start our day. Thanks for sharing :)
