Turned out ok, I had to make extra batter due to the thickness of my bread. I bought bread from the bakery at the grocery store and slice how I thick I wanted it. Also, I will turn the heat down a bit next time as the french toast cooked fast.

Yum! This is a great recipe for a weekend morning when boring old cold cereal doesn't cut it. The recipe is fairly standard, however, (I think) the vanilla makes it taste extra-special. Perfect with a cup of coffee and the Sunday newspaper.

I used texas toast bread and instead of heavy cream i just used regular milk. I also use the vanilla and add a little bit of sugar to the mix. My husband is a huge french toast lover and loves this recipe!! Thanks for sharing!

This is quite similar to the recipe I have made for years. The only difference being the nutmeg, which I found very tasty. Next time I will use ground cloves as well which was suggested by several of the reviewers. A great basic recipe. Thanks, Jan!

Very good basic french toast recipe. It was a little milk-heavy though; be careful how long you soak the bread so it doesn't get soggy/take a long time to cook. But overall good flavors--really liked the addition of vanilla.

good flavor, but egg/milk ratio made these too wet in my family's opinion.

Used this on some left over bread after going to Italian restaurant for dinner, so nice thick slices of french bread, and worked well! Very simple and good place to start, nutmeg was delish in it!

Yummo! I skipped the nutmeg just because I didn't have any on hand and it still turned out great - a classic

Easy to make and tastes great! Nice to have on a cool Fall morning. I warmed the maple syrup before serving. Perfect! I think I will try raisin bread next time for a change. :) Thank you Jan for a great recipe!

Made this out of some Italian bread that had been in the pantry a couple of days past its prime. It was my first time making french toast. I didn't try it but my husband thought it was good, not great. Used all cinnamon rather than combined with nutmeg. I'll keep looking for my ideal french toast recipe.

I have made french toast for years but it was never as good as this. I omitted the salt & upped the eggs to 4 and milk to 3/4 cup to make 11-12 slices. 5 year old twins & 2 year old gobbled it up, even my husband raved about how good this was.
