As made, it was just OK. Using water instead of stock or milk and using nothing but a bit of pepper was bland for us. We use very little salt to begin with and I often do not add any. This needed something. To help it better fit our palate, I did the following: used low-sodium chicken stock instead of water, added 2 T milk, added some salt (I just shook some on - not sure how much), and added some spices. Mint it was I used, as it is often paired with peas, but to keep it savory, other herbs could be used, such as marjoram, savory, or even a bit of dill.
