I usually like to make a recipe twice before I review it (once, by following directions exactly, and the second time, with any alterations I've decided would be better for myself and family.) Unfortunately, I was unable to follow it to 't' this time, as I only had about a cup of sliced onions left.) Therefore, I am going to still give it a five, as what we did have for dinner turned out wonderfully! My changes are as follows: 1) I removed two soup cans of tomato juice and stored it in the fridge for another recipe. 2) I then added two cans of French onion soup. 3) I minced up 1 large clove of garlic (and, probably should have added more, but we lovee garlic around here.) That's it; just a few simple changes, and it was some of the most delicious tomato soup I've ever had! I served this soup with grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and a salad. Fast, easy, simple and delicious dinner to top off a busy and hectic day. Thank you, Clara...and, next time, I will follow your recipe as is!

This was fabulous. I made it in 20 minutes and it tasted wonderful. Just like french onion soup with a tomato kick. I added some crushed red pepper to spice it up a notch.

The recipe by itself is ok, but I added a lot to it. I added carrots to the onions about 10 baby carrots. I didn't use the lemon juice that was suppose to be in this. I used about a cup of macaroni and cooked it in the soup mix. I used a tin of onion soup which brought out a lot of flavor and made it taste really good. I then added a tin full of water too and added corn off the cob, that I took off with a sharp knife. And cooked the soup till everything was tender.

This was delicious! I loved the slightly lemon-y flavor that came through the tomato base. Just make sure you go into this recipe with the right idea: keep in mind that this is not at all like traditional French onion soup. It's definitely more "tomato soup with onions." It was easy to make and my boyfriend and I both loved it. I will be making this all winter!

This is fantastic!! I used V8 low sodium tomato juice for my base. The bullion has a lot of sodium already, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't to salty. I used 3 cloves of fresh garlic, that I minced and added to the onions when they were almost done. I also added just a dash of fresh cracked pepper. This was an amazingly tasty tomato soup!

Don't confuse this with French Onion soup -- it's French Onion TOMATO soup - and it's delicious! Consider this a rich tomato soup and you'll love it. Goes perfect with a hot grilled cheese sandwich!

OMG! This was so good! I had some cans of tomato soup and I wanted to do something different with it. So, so good.

We love both French onion soup and tomato soup, but this was not what I hoped for in a soup. I actually took the leftover soup, strained it, and plan to use it for spaghetti sauce later this week.

This is a very unique recipe. I've had french onion soup with tomato in it before, this was more of a tomato soup with onions in it. It's sweet, but a little too thick. Don't think I'll make again, but I don't regret trying it.

Scrumptous! Vegetable boullion cubes worked as a good substitute. The crouton and cheese were delicious, but the soup is just as good without it.
