French Canadian Dip

"A new twist on a classic dish, made with Montreal smoked meat, a smoky beef, and Canadian bacon. In our house, we usually eat the au jus after we're done dipping our sandwiches in it."

Directions

  1. Heat butter in a large pot over medium heat; cook and stir onion and garlic until onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Pour beef stock, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce into onion mixture; add bay leaves. Drop in Montreal smoked meat and Canadian bacon one slice at a time. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Use tongs to remove meat from the stock and distribute evenly inside sandwich baguettes. Remove bay leaves; ladle stock into individual bowls for dipping. Serve hot.

I'm not finished making this yet but YES it is good! Had some left over smoked brisket from a local source and had to try this! I don't have the bacon. The wonderful smells coming from my kitchen is attracting neighbors! I did use a bit of water to recipe but this is already tasting and smelling great! I will post a pick but not sure it will do the smells and tastes justice!

This au jus is the tastiest ever. Made with low sodium beef broth, the rest as written, maybe simmered a bit longer, but I couldn't 't get enough of the au jus.

I made this recipe exactly like the directions but I did not add bacon. It turned out really good and my husband ate seconds. My crock pot is broken and thus was a good stove top alternative.
