These are great! To lighten them up, I used light wheat bread, wheat flour with nonfat milk, splenda. We make half the recipe, and I put some deli ham in the pan to sear, then stick in between the bread slices before the syrup. Family loves it. I usually bake apples to go with it. A great family breakfast.

I just made this for breakfast this morning. It was delish. I made 4 servings and it turned out wonderful. Only thing I had an issue with was by the time I coated the 4 piece of bread there was barely anything left. I may have overcoated the other pieces. I just gave that piece to my 14month old so it wasn't a big deal. Next time I'll just make a big serving and use the 4 pieces of bread. My hubby said it was just like his mom's *SCORE*

My husband loved this french toast! He said it's the best I've made. The only changes I made were that I used 2 whole eggs plus 2 egg whites instead of 3 whole eggs to cut the cholesterol. I also used light vanilla soy milk rather than cow's milk. No complaints with this one!

Loved this!!! On accident I added an extra egg, used half a cup of milk and added 1/4 cup of flour. I used a large bowl to dip the bread in. Coated the bottom and kept it tilted while I dipped the bread in. They came out perfect. I would have made a picture but didn't have any leftovers. Will try this one again real soon.

I know that other people have said that this recipe didn't come out soggy I don't know if I did something wrong or what but mine came out really soggy. Also, it tasted very strongly of the flour. I could barely taste the sweeter taste that I expect from french toast.

Very good! The flour does keep it from being too soggy and it comes up fluffy and fabulous. I added a splash of spiced rum and a bit of nutmeg to the batter but it would have been good without it too. I'll be using this one recipe from now on for sure.

This is most excellent french toast! It's identical to my "go to" recipe, except for the flour. However, I will be using this one in the future! It turned out fluffy, golden and delicious, and my kids devoured it (even the picky six year old!) I used a loaf of French bread that was bought a couple of days ago specifically for french toast. I only got 8 1" thick slices dipped before the batter was used up. That's the only complaint I can come up with -- there wasn't enough for seconds!

This is delicious! I used fresh french bread sliced diagonally about 1-1/4 " thick I used my thumb as a gauge from end of nail to knuckle). Let the bread soak up all of the batter before frying. I pan fried it in butter and served with real maple syrup. Like another reviewer, I added, oh, maybe a 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract with the vanilla (for 3 servings). I also added a bit more sugar. This is a wonderful recipe that I enjoyed making and eating. Oh yes, and my husband said he could smell it outside of the house and it smelled yummy!
