How can you make chili & not add somethings that arent in the recipe? I added one 12 oz beer...I used Rolling Rock and added 2 T of Texas Petes Hot Sauce. Great recipe...I make this about 5-6 times a year & serve it over Brazillian Rice (recipe can be found on allrecipes)...thanks.

Great ingredients make a great recipe. The spice mixture is perfect and the next time I make it I will add two cans of diced tomatoes to sub for the juice. We like a thick chili so will cut back on the sauce/juice addition for our preference. I fried the beef in a skillet and then threw all in the crockpot to simmer for 3 hours on high. I also made with cooked up dry kidney beans. Lastly for more heat I threw in a whole hot pepper and pulled it out before serving. Thanks for the recipe! Oh yeah, I served w/ sourdough grilled cheese sandwiches. Yummy!

Yummy, yummy, yummy! Excellent flavor! I had to deal with what I had on hand though. I halved the recipe and still only had half of the tomato juice. I substituted with 2 fresh diced tomatoes. Accidently used twice the cayenne, but still enjoyed the result. Only had half of the chili powder, so I used some chili spices left over from a chili kit. This is the best chili I have ever made. Agreee with other reviewers disagreeing with modifying ingredients then panning the recipe. If I had disliked my results I wouldn't have posted. But this chili turned out great even with my substitutions.

Very good recipe! I followed some other suggestions and replaced the tom. juice with crushed tomoatos and tom. sauce with diced toms. I also added 3 cans of beans, one black, one chili and one red kidney. Turned out great! The rest I did as written. My family loved it. thanks

Really good! I didn't have green peppers so I used mushrooms instead; also, I used both kidney beans and black beans - turned out delicious, a little watery, but otherwise, very good flavour! :)

My girlfriend made some chili which was the best I had ever had. I forgot to get her recipe so searched for one. This is it. I now make this chili recipe about every 2 weeks. The only thing I change is the using pinto and small white beans instead of kidney beans. Depending how long I let it cook (sometimes several hours) I add some more tomato or vegetable juice and more chili powder to taste. My teenage son and his friends LOVE this on chili dogs with grilled onions and shredded cheese. I love it by itself. Thank you so much.

This is one of the best chili recipes we've found. However, we turn down the hot level for the kiddos. Our best addition was 1 lb sausage and 1 lb ground beef. Otherwise, this is phenomenal as written. Our family loves it!

I made this exactly like the recipe said but used 3 lbs of ground beef, so it was a pretty thick chili. Terrific. I thought it would just be okay, but it came out great! Thanks!

This recipe comes out great is seems to please everyone in the group from those who don't like it too spicy to those who do. Also, you can make this recipe with a meat alternative (Morningstar Ground "Beef") and even meat eaters who know that it's not real beef still like this chili.

Wonderful recipe. Thank you. Only change I made was that I cooked the onion along with the ground beef. No more store-bought chili mix!
