This is our "go to" chili recipe! We always have an empty pot and folks asking for the recipe when served at gatherings. We do use 1/2 sausage and 1/2 ground chuck with this recipe, but is is PERFECT, as is. Thanks to the submitter.

Very, very good chili!! Made just a few changes, based on reviews from others. I sauteed the onions with the hamburger. Added 2 cans of diced tomatoes with onions instead of the tomato juice, and I also added a bit more salt, a bit more sugar and a touch of ketchup (believe it or not!). Otherwise, followed the recipe to a T. Hubby loved it!! Thanks for the recipe!!

I gave this recipe 4 stars because I did change it to my liking. The recipe as written is a little to watery for me. I like my chili chunky. I do not use the tomato juice, I substitue diced tomatoes instead. I also omit the celery only because I don't like it. With that being said, this recipe is incredible! I highly reccommend it. The flavor I would give 5 stars! I have made this several times and its always a huge hit!

I made as written, and it was very good. I mostly tried it because my husband likes a meaty chili and I was looking for something for him. Very good. He kept getting a "taste" before it was done!

Good chili. I altered like this: used 2 cans plum tomatoes; 2 tiny cans tomato juice; half can of beer; 1 can kidney beans & 1 can black beans. I pureed the tomatoes w/ some of the beans, which thickened it up nicely. Served w/ shredded cheddar & blue corn chips and a simple salad.

I made this for a block party and everyone loved it. Served it with the oyster crackers and taco shredded cheese. It was gone in minutes! I will be making this all through football season.

it was fantastic. I didn't change a thing and didn't need to. I served it with oyster crackers. my husband added some shredded cheddar and onions to it. the next day we put it over spaghetti. it was great.

Changed it a bit, got rid of the tomato juice and just had tomato sauce and canned tomato's. We like our chili thick! This is my family's favorite chili and gets cooked quite often.

Wonderful! The herbs give the chili a unique flavor. I have made it maybe 10 times for large groups and there are never any leftovers! And, everyone asks for more.

I have made this Chili (as is) many many times and it's now my go-to chili.....it's so affordable and easy, my husband and kids love it when they smell this great tomato'e chili cooking......we have to double or triple it every time.

This is the first time I made homemade chili and it turned out good. The only thing I changed was the red beans. I used pinto beans. Plus I added some hot sauce. All I can say is thank you so much for helping me make great homemade chili for the first time. Yum Yum

Great chili recipe. I tweeked it ever so slightly, adding 2 cans of diced tomatos and cutting back on the tomato juice(I like chunks of tomatoes in my chili) and substituting Quorn crumbles for the meat (I am a vegetarian). This is a real "thumbs up" dish. Enjoy.

Fantastic! My fiance and I used canned whole tomatoes (and cut them up), and canned tomato chunks in addition to the can of sauce. Absolutely fantastic! The spices are spot on and my family loved it! We're making it again next week!

BEST HOMEMADE CHILI EVER!!! i have made this countless times, and passed the recipe on to dozens of people and everyone who had tasted it has made it their standard chili recipe...only things i change are: i use crushed tomatoes and diced tomatoes, and omit the sugar...i use a little extra cayenne just because i like stuff quite hot; this is a brilliant recipe!!! thank you!!
