I consider myself a newbie to cooking, so I saw this recipe online and decided to make chili for the first time. It is awesome. The whole family loved it!

I have made this chili once a week now for the past three weeks. It is a very simple recipe and so delicious. I took the advice of other reviewers and used tomato sauce to replace the tomato juice and diced tomatoes to replace the tomato sauce. It makes it a little thicker than the original recipe which I love. Definitely a keeper! :)

I made this recipe for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. It turned out awesome, many of our guests said it was the best chili they'd ever had and I've passed on the recipe several times. This has become my go-to chili recipe. Enjoy!

I made this recipe this morning in my crock pot. I did modify slighty - rather than 46 oz of tomoato juice I used 1 1/2 cups of juice and 2 cans of diced tomatoes with oregano, onions and basil, and 3 cups of beans. Other than that , I followed the recipe. It is cooking as I type and smells amazing. I did sample it and even though it is not completely cooked I already love it. I am serving it with cornbread -also from this site. Perfect recipe for a rainy fall Saturday! Will definitely make again.

The first time I ever made chili and it came out great! It was super simple to prep. I cut the recipe in half and cooked it in a big sauce pan. I was planning on making it as is but decided against it based in what I thought would be lower sodium. I wanted to use low sodium juice but didn't want to compromise flavor, which is the only reason I used others recommendations to do sauce instead of juice and tomatoes instead of sauce. I also added shredded carrots. Will definitely be making this all season long!

So Halloween was here and I needed some help. Found this recipe and thank goodness. I was able to throw it all together. We didn't simmer it for and hour and a half and it was still yummy. Lots leftover to freeze. We've used the leftovers in chili mac and chili dogs. YUMM...

I love my own chili recipe but desperately needed to cut off my McCormick's Chili seasoning "addiction". It was getting too expensive & was tasting too salty lately. Anyway, I just needed to find a chili seasoning recipe and this was perfect. I didn't follow the rest of the recipe; however, I'm giving this 5 stars because it served my purpose of replacing the McCormicks. For my own chili recipe, I use both diced and stewed tomatoes; brown sugar vs. white sugar; a touch of cinnamon; roasted jalapeno peppers and finish it off with crushed Fritos and cheese.

After reading reviews, I decided to sub the tomato juice with crush tomatoes. I also added at 15oz can of stewed tomatoes and a beef bouillon cube (I got this from another chili recipe) . I let this simmer for two hours and was quite pleased with the results. This will be my standard chili recipe.

After trying many other chili recipes...this one finally met my fiance's approval. He wants me to make it weekly! I did listen to other peoples suggestions and substituted diced tomatoes for the tomato juice. I made cornbread to go with it, and it was the perfect fall/winter Sunday meal!

Oh, My Gosh!!! This is the first chili I have ever made (my husband is the chili maker in our family). I made in 2/08 and my husband and I loved it. This year when our family Chili Cookoff came around, I entered for the first time with this recipe. And GUESS WHAT??? This is the very first year we had a Chili Queen instead of a King!!! I won with this fantastic recipe!!!! It is the BEST and I have the trophy to prove it! : ) I made the recipe exactly as stated, with one exception~I left out the bell pepper. Thanks soooo much for this recipe, George! We all love it!

this is definately the chili recipe I am going to keep in my recipe collection. I used stewed tomatoes intead of tomato juice to add some texture. Plus I doubled the cayenne pepper since I was making it for a bunch of hunting guys. I also added some green pepper, but the basic recipe here is very, very good.

really good, found it a little to watery though. So in the last 1/2 hour of simmering i added 1 cup of minute white rice, and the it turned into more on a chili. i also didnt add the 1/4 cup of chili powder because i didnt have any. still was very tasty!

I think this is more of a 4 1/2 recipe, but I made a few changes so can't vouch for the original. The changes I made were partly out of necessity, part based on other reviews, and part just cuz. I don't know exactly how much beef I used, but I'm guessing between 2 1/2 and 3 lbs (I had bought a 5 lbs roll, and it was what was left) I couldn't find plain red beans, so I bought a 2lb can of chili beans, and just added them all in, didn't think to drain and rinse em. I also didn't bother to measure the green pepper, just used a whole one. I used an whole onion and 1/2 onion, cuz I had a half onion in the fridge I wanted used up, and the whole onion measured up a tad bit short. And, I added an extra tsp cumin, doubled to oregano, sugar and cayenne. Also, since my husband ended up working late, the chili ended up simmering closer to 3 hours. This didn't hurt it a bit. Usually when my husband comes in late, he's to tired to eat much, but he downed 2 big bowls and actually wants the left overs for dinner tonight. I few reviews mentioned that it was thin and watery, I didn't have that problem, but it maybe because I tossed in a few extra solids. T. It's not a hot chili, but does have plenty of flavor, which is how I like it but the chili powder still kinda overwhelms everything a bit for my taste, so next time I make it, I'll probably scale it down just a teeny bit.
