Family-Favorite Soft Oatmeal Cookies
SUBMITTED BY:
Virginia Bodner
"My mother got this recipe in about 1910 when she was a housekeeper for the local physician. The doctor's wife was an excellent cook and shared the recipe with my mother, who later shared it with me. Now my five grown children also enjoying baking these cookies for their families--it's a tradition."

I hate to do this. Especially being the first reviewer, but these cookies were not good! They really lacked flavour, and the texture was just weird! They all melted down into one big mess on the cookie sheet. I had put a couple Tblsps almond extract into the dough. (I'm sure glad I did, I think they would have tasted like cardboard if I didn't.) Other then that, I followed the recipie EXACTLY. I've made 100s of batched of cookies over the years, and non have ever turned out like this before. Sorry, they just wern't good :(

These were pretty good, but too cake-like for my taste. There's also a distinct aftertaste of something, maybe the soda. I used this recipe because I had the ingredients on hand, but doubt I'll use it again.

I made these cookies about an hour ago and I've eaten about 5 already. I like the texture. Unlike the usual granola bar type, it's a nice, soft, light texture. I added some nutmeg and chocolate chips, just for the FUN of it. I'm a cookie monster, and this recipe is SO on rotation for me!
