The frosting was extremely difficult to spread and I have to agree with some of the other reviews...the boiling water ruined this recipe.

It's very good but I found it to be quite heavy although I like heavy so that's not a problem. It's extremely moise. This is acutally the Hershey Chocolate Cake recipe.

Everything turned out pretty good. I might try to use 3 pans instead of 2; when the cake was rising it did make me feel uneasy as it looked as if it was going to drip out a bit, but it didn't. The only thing about this recipe that I would change would be the icing portions. I know it says "extreme chocolate cake" but I just put a medium layer of icing inbetween the two layers and all over the top and sides and there was about 50%+ of the icing left! Don't get me wrong, the icing was great, a nice buttercream-y icing, but I didn't want to use it all cause I didn't want the "I can feel my teeth rotting sugary high".

This was the easiest and best cake I have ever had. I made this lactose free by using Rice Milk it worked great. SO if you can not have dairy try it...I promiss its worth it!I took 1/2 the frosting and mixed in 1/2 a can of pureed cherry pie filling. I put the cherry mix in between the layers of the cake! Very Very Good!! Thanks for the great recipe!

I made this cake for my niece, who happens to love chocolate. Our families agree it's the best chocolate cake ever! Then I fixed it for some friends, and thought it was to die for. I've given out the recipe to many. Thanks Rachel! I just read the reviews. I don't understand why anyone would have any trouble making this cake. It has turned out perfect everytime I've made it! It comes out of the pans clean everytime.

I had major difficulty removing the cake from the pan, after greasing and flouring because I decorate my cakes. I found this cake VERY hard to work with. I thought it had more of a bread taste than a cake flavor, it wasn't quite sweet enough either.

I made this cake for my son's 10th birthday. It was a big hit. Everyone loved it. I'm not sure how the boiling water ruined anyone else's cake because mine came out just fine. The batter is thinner than boxed cake mix batter, but once it was baked it was just fine. The only thing I did different is that I didn't split the layers. I just made it with 2 9" layers and reduced the frosting recipe quite a bit since I didn't need that much frosting. This recipe is a keeper and I've already been asked to make it again!!!!

Absolutely amazing chocolate cake!! Moist and delicious, I've made it twice and just got a request for one for my sister's birthday. The frosting is fabulous too and is more than enough to cover the cakes generously.

GREAT recipe! But do it in three 8 or 9" pans instead of two, I learned after SEVERAL messy mishaps that it eliminates the oven spills. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, rich chocolate cake.

This is an AWESOME cake. By far the best chocolate cake I've ever made. I made it for my husband's 30th birthday and it turned out tasting very good. My only complaint is that it's almost TOO moist because it tore up coming out of the pans. Yummy though!! I also used Dutch Processed Hershey's cocoa and it really came out smooth and wonderful. I'd recommend it!

This cake is delicious. The sugar does not overpower the chocolate flavor, and it is very rich.

This is the best chocolate cake I have ever had! I wont use another recipe for chocolate cake ever again and I wont by boxed batter again either. This cake was easy to make and came out perfect with no special effort. The frosting was excellent but I used cream instead of milk. My husband and I couldnt stop eating it... my only complaint would be that its additcting!!!

This was truly the richest and most moist chocolate cake I've ever had! I love the texture of the cake, and with it split into 4 total layers, there's the opportunity to really taste the icing. The recipe for the icing makes more than enough, so it was not hard to generously cover the cake. I made it for my husband's birthday and everyone is still raving about it!

I was extremely disapointed with this cake. The boiling water ruined the whole cake, and it didn't come out. Don't waste your ingredients with this one.
