I am a true chocoholic and this cake was absolutely amazing!! I followed the instructions to a T and was impressed by how soft, moist and chocolately it was. I was a little sceptical as far as the boiling water and the resulting batter consistency were concerned but both cake and cupcakes ( this recipe makes 36 cupcakes!!!) came out wonderfully! I have made it three times within the last week and will be making again tomorrow! Yum, yum, yum!!

I made this cake for a birthday and it was a big hit. I added some VIA (Starbucks new instant coffee) to the milk for the frosting and it was a nice balance to the rich chocolate. Everyone requested that I make it again.

This cake is so good. I added coffee instead of boiling water and cut the amount of frosting in half (which was more than enough). Without a doubt I will make this cake again.

I'm not a huge cake eater, but this was one of the best I've tasted. Not only did it stay moist, but it had a great texture and flavor. It is very, very rich so a little goes a long way.

This was my first time making a cake from scratch. I was a little intimidated when searching for cake recipes at first. Other cakes seemed way to complacated but not this one. If you want a easy and simple cake this is the best recipe. I'm giving it 5 stars because the top of the cake was a little to sticky and some of it fell off when I was flipping out of the pan. Maybe I needed to cook it longer. But do not let this turn you away from making this sinfully delicious cake. Everyone at work loved it.

Oh man- adjectives used to describe this were "moist" "delicious" "chocolate-y" and "oh my god"...so that obviously meant it was insanely crowd-pleasing! :) The recipe made a lot of batter, enough for 2 9" pans and 4 cupcakes (so I got to sample it beforehand yaay!). Oh the frosting was awesome too! Thanks Rach!

I haven't made this but I'm giving it 5 stars because it's the EXACT same recipe as the One Bowl Chocolate Cake III so really, it should have way more stars :P

I followed the recipe exactly for the cake part and it turned out AMAZING. I was apprehensive of the boiling water stage but it's delicious and everyone is raving about it. I didn't have enough butter to make the butter cream so I just made a different kind of fudge-y icing and that worked well with the cake.

Great receipe. I didn't cut this into 4 layers, so I cut the icing recipe almost in half and it turned out great. Cake was very moist.

I was really worried about it due to the thinness of the batter after adding the boiling water. However after baking it I have found this is the best ever cake I have ever had. It was so moist. Kids and adults begged for more. My son called it the "Death by Chocolate" cake. A sure fire winner.

I made this cake two days ago, and I'm glad I waited to review it, because it improved with age. It is not my favorite, but it is very chocolatey and moist. If I make this again, I think I will use a different frosting. I think I'd like this with a milk chocolate mousse between the layers and the outside frosted with homemade whipped cream. Update - made again with milk chocolate mousse in between the layers and homemade whipped cream on the top and sides. I didn't take the time to do chocolate curls on top, but next time I will. Wait a day to serve this cake. It really improves with age. With the mousse filling, it deserves five stars in my book.

Most amazing chocolate cake recipe ever! Made it and it was eaten within 1 day....and it wasn't even for a celebration! Both the cake and the frosting came out amazing. I did use a 9x13" glass baking dish and split into 2 layers instead. I had no problems with batter overflow. Im making it again tonight! Will be making many, many more times.

Great tasting cake; moist and very chocolaty. I didn't make/use this particular frosting and still the cake gets 4 stars. One star being deducted because of the stickiness. The crumbs are a sticky mess.

The cake was great....the frosting....not so great. It was way too intense with that much cocoa powder. I even added more powdered sugar to try to help it and it just didn't work out. My kids on the other hand LOVED it, but they're kids so they'll eat anything sweet LOL! I will def. make the cake again just with a different frosting.

I loved this recipe! I made it for my cousins 8th birthday and she loved it and she doesnt normally like cake. One thing I found helpful was adding a tiny bit of cinnamon and then when I frodsted it I did a crumb layer (a thin coat of frosting used to gather cake crumbs) and then froze it and then did another layer of thicker frosting. This cake also tastes really good with cream cheese frosting. Thanks for the great recipe! :]

THE BEST chocolate cake I have ever had, hands down. I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out beautifully. So moist and dense, with a rich chocolate flavor that wasn't overly sweet. And the frosting was so light and creamy - I couldn't stop myself from eating it straight from the bowl! I will be making this recipe forever!

My step mother LOVES chocolate and caramel and I used this recipe to create a chocolate toffee crunch cake with caramel cream cheese filling. I made the cake and the icing exactly like the recipe, taking heed to stir in the boiling water by hand and it turned out so well that my dad was eating the extra without frosting. I ended up making a 5 layer cake, using traditional chocolate ganache between 2 outside layers and the caramel cream cheese filling in the middle 2 layers, I covered the whole thing with the chocolate buttercream on the outside, and the covered in a layer of toffee chips!!! I have never had such rave reviews on my cakes. I will be using this recipe for all of my chocolate cakes because it was also super super easy and quick.
