There were nine children in our family and Mother had to stretch the budget, so she made these often for dessert. I loved them when I was a child, and they're still a special treat. In fact, I've never met anyone who doesn't like these cookies. They're so simple and quick to make.

I keep busy with our baby daughter and helping my dad on his dairy farm. But when I have time-usually in the winter-I love to bake. I make these tea cakes every Christmas. I double the recipe and freeze half for later.

THIS RECIPE has been in my files for a long time...probably from when I first learned to bake. Any chocolate lover will like these melt-in-your-mouth cookies. I make them year-round with variations.
