Mom makes this for a easy meal when we all get together, everyone loves it. Like suggestions to add garlic, will try that next. Great meal to take RV camping.

Like many others I used a full bodied malted ale and substituted consomme for the broth. The result was a french dip that my family loved. We served this beautiful recipe on the french rolls to die for also available on the site. Even my picky five year old was asking for more.

WOW! My fanily loves French Dip, and I've found this recipe to better than is served in most local resaurants. I used a malty, full-bodied porter ale and eye round roast, since it was the same price as chuck.

I just served this for dinner tonight and it was a big hit with our dinner guests and my husband! I did not butter the bread - I just piled thinly sliced pieces of roast on the bottom half of each bun, then put a slice of Provolone on top. Put it in the broiler for 1-2 minutes to let the cheese melt. The dipping sauce was great too! I will definitely make this again.

I have a picky 8 yr and 2 yr old who both ate this and wanted 2nds. My husband said it was great and he wants it again! No complaints. That means a lot from him, he's a real food critic. Thanks for a recipe that made the whole family happy!

This was okay. The sauce was pretty good and the meat was tender but I wasn't overly impressed. The addition of cheese to the sandwich was my favorite part. It didn't go over with the family very well...

Wish I could give it 4.5 stars. For our family, this would be a 5 star recipe with the addition of swiss cheese. Definitely a keeper!

Pretty dang gone good. Five stars for easiness! Followed the recipe but added some garlic powder, thyme, and rosemary - dont know if enough to make a difference. I imagine you could tweak this recipe a lot without screwing it up.

AMAZING! I'm not the biggest beef eater but my boyfriend and I both LOVED this recipe. I took the advice of others and added some garlic powder, beef broth, onion powder, and worcestershire sauce. However, i'm sure this recipe would still be great without the changes! Thanks! :)

The flavor was not what I expected so next time I would leave out the beer and add more beef broth instead.

Was wonderful! Everyone loved it and it was super easy. Took advice of other readers and doctored it up a bit with some garlic, onion powder, thyme, dash of salt, worchester sauce and pepper. rubbed some montreal steak seasoning on meat also before cooking. YUM!

This was really good. I added a can of Beef Consomme and used Guiness. I think this would make an excellent French Onion Soup. Hmmmm...
