I caught the pickling bug this year and went searching for my mom's Bread and Butter Pickle recipe. While waiting for it to appear I tried these. They're terrific! I left out the cloves and reduced the sugar. I'll put a reduced clove amount in next time to try and get close to the taste of mom's recipe. Will also add sweet red peppers next time for color.

Very good! I substituted pickling spice for cloves as some others did. Turned out great - easy!

Super easy and super delish! I used 2 1/2 t. pickling spice in place of the spices listed. And, since they looked so pretty in Suz's photo, I scored the cukes before slicing. Thank you for the neat idea! And, thank you for sharing this recipe!

Best refrigerator pickle recipe that I have tried. Easy and delicious. I added a couple of red hot chili peppers for Sweet Hots. You won't be disappointed!

These pickles are delicious and are only going to get better. The only substitution I made was to use dry mustard for the turmeric. I took part of the finished product and put it through the food chopper to make relish. GREAT RECIPE! Thanks for sharing Catherine Seibold!

This was a huge success!! My first attempt at anything like this and I was very pleased. I omitted the cloves, tumeric, and mustard seed as none of those were in my cupboard (sounds like some others too), I added the garlic, hot pepper and whole peppercorns also using white vinegar and some dill. I cut the sugar to one cup and was very pleased with the results. I'm sharing this recipe with all my friends. Thanks! All the reviews helped me feel comfortable trying different variations, so I thank all those who reviewed this recipe!

This is a great recipe and will make them again. I did not use the cloves, tumeric, but used a pinch of crushed red pepper and about a tablespoon of pickling spice. The method was quick and easy.

As I do with a lot of recipes here, I add/minus what I like or don't have. This was my very 1st try with pickles. After reading reviews, I omitted the cloves & didn't have turmeric. I also substituted white vinegar for cider. Added crushed garlic, peppercorns, dill weed and crushed red pepper for some added hottness. ABSOLUTELY wonderful! I made 2 quart jars which were gone in a couple of days by my son and friend. I made more today and my son asked when they would be ready! WONDERFUL! I also researched and found they should be good for up to 6 mos in the fridge.

These were so good my step dad mailed me cukes early so I could make him more before our cucumbers were ready. We love the kick they get with a little pepper in them.

I really enjoyed these pickles. The flavour was not overpowering. I even enjoyed eating the onions (which became pickled as well!).

I would completely omit the cloves if I tried this again. I only added 1/8 tsp to see how it tasted and it overwhelmed the brine with just that small amount. I added more vinegar and water to try to dilute it, but it was still too much. (This also helped to make more brine as I didn't have enough to cover the cucumber slices, even with this added liquid) I would definitely cut back on the sugar. I started with less than called for just to taste, maybe half, and it was too sweet even after diluting. I added some minced garlic and crushed red pepper and used pickling spices instead of mustard seed (it's mostly mustard seed anyway.) The main downfall is those cloves, just too powerful, but I might try again with my alterations.

A great & easy pickle recipe. I used 2 slightly heaping tsp. of pickling spices instead of the individual spices listed and also added some diced sweet red pepper for extra color and flavor. Next time I will add a little cauliflower too. Very pretty pickles and pretty darn good too! A+++++

Yummy. I used the celery seeds but did not have all the other spices so I substituted 2 teasp. pickling spice. They were very crunchy. I sliced the cukes with a food processor and were very thin. Next time I think I will follow others' advice and slice them thicker.
