This was yummy! Used black beans instead of chili, decreased the amount of sour cream, and added corn and a touch of chili powder.

I made this according to the directions and my husband and I really liked it. The truth is that my kids wouldn't even try it, but that's not unusual from them.

Thanks to some reviews I was able to make this delicious recipe while tweaking the ingredients for a somewhat healthier alternative. All thumbs up and second helpings all around the dinner table! For 8 servings I used 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck, 1 pkg of Lawry's taco seasoning mix, 16 oz jar of Newman's Own all natural chunky mild salsa, Trader Joe's 15oz can of cuban style black beans (drained), 15oz can of Kuner's southwestern corn n peppers (drained), 6oz sliced black olives (drained), 4 sliced green onions, 15 oz can of petite diced tomatoes (drained), 8oz nonfat plain yogurt mixed with 8oz reduced fat sour cream, 2 cups cheddar/monterey jack cheese. I used blue corn tortilla chips, did not crush them, and only enough to cover the bottom of the dish...4 cups would have been way to much even in the 11x15 pan I used. I browned and drained the meat and then added the taco mix, the salsa, drained beans, and drained corn and mixed well in the skillet. Then layered everything according to the original recipe but added a few handfuls of crushed up blue chips on top. note: I do have a couple of kids who asked for a little extra sour cream on the side. Also, if you like more kick use hot salsa or add some tabasco etc.. GREAT alternative to tacos!

I have to admit right away that, like an idiot, I forgot to add the beans to this recipe. *But* it turned out wonderfully anyway with these changes: (1) I added half a recipe of Taco Seasoning I to the meat to give it more flavor; and (2) topped individual servings with the guacamole recipe from this site. Superb!!!

This was excellent. I just added some beans to the meat mixture and I did not have enough salsa, so I added a little taco seasoning! Wonderful!

This turned out wonderful! Instead of 2 cups of salsa, I did one. I also added a packet of taco seasoning. Instead of chili beans I used black beans. The chips do get a little bit mushy, but the overall flavor was still fantastic.

With some minor changes this was a HUGE hit! This is my signature dish to bring to any gathering and it is always devoured! I add a packet of taco seasoning while browning meat (not after browned, it doesn't absorb into the meat right), use black beans instead of chili, and use a Mexican cheese blend instead of just cheddar. Also, the chunkier the salsa the better. This is a really excellent dish! Reheats well for lunches too!

This is good I think I will add more cheese. I will also take the advice of others and cook down a bit so it's not so much like soup.

This recipe doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. If you look at the ingredients, you know what you'll get! It could use a little more oomph to it, as many have stated. It is a good place for new cooks with younger children to start their cooking experience. For others, it's a good starting place.

Loved it! I can't get enough of it. The only thing I did different was I used black beans instead of the ones it called for and crunched up chips on top as well and added a little fresh cilintro.

i thought this was great. i too used ground turkey and i also used black beans instead of chili beans. i had the fiesta tortilla chips that are multi-colored, so i crushed some chips over the top too, along w/ all the other toppings. it's appeal was as great as it's taste!

Per others suggestions I mixed a 1/2 pkg of taco seasoning into meat. Cut the fat on this recipe by using turkey meat, low fat sour cream and cheddar - still very good. I substituted canned diced tomatoes for the fresh. The crushed chips on the bottom DO get soggy. I liked this taste but if you like your chips crunchy I would leave out when baking and serve mixture with chips after baking. Served over lettuce.

I'm impressed by how *delicious* this tastes! My family of 6 literally fought for the last bite!! I added about 1 tbs. taco seasoning (taco seasoning I recipe from this site), omitted the olives, and served with chips on the side. This will be the appetizer for my next party!
