I made the recipe as written and thought it was "ok". Much too bland for my taste. I love easy dishes like this for a change of pace from tacos/fajitas/burritos though and think it could definitely be changed up to be a great recipe with some personalization. Next time I would use nacho cheese doritos for the chip layer, add another layer of cheese over the meat & bean layer and definitely more seasonings (a taco packet or similar) and finely diced onion to the meat while its cooking.

I read all the reviews and made the following changes: After browing the grd beef I added 1 packet of taco seasoning with 2/3 cup water. Also seasoned with garlic powder, chile powder and salt. I used a can of drained/rinsed pinto beans instead of the chile beans. I did not crush the tortilla chips. I put down a layer of whole chips, meat sauce, sour cream, then another 1/2 layer of chips, meat sauce, green onions and tomatoes and topped with the cheese. This was terrific! A definite keeper.

We loved this recipe-I layered in a can of fiesta corn (my husband's favorite)! We invited a friend for dinner and still had leftovers enough for lunch-cleanup was simple, the presentation was very nice. It's a keeper!

It looked great. It would have tasted great, but I never had any. (We gave it to a friend.) I actually used mozzarella cheese. Can't wait to try it again--and keep it!

I made this to take to the field during harvest. 2 guys devoured 3/4ths of the pan. They raved at how good it was. For them I used the hot chili beans and hot salsa. This recipe I will definitely make again. Easy and good.

This actually turned out a lot better than I expected. I also made several changes to the original recipe including, using broken taco shells instead of chips, adding a little taco seasoning to the meat while cooking, only 1 cup of salsa, I used black beans instead of chili, only used about 3/4 cup of sour cream, and topped with Rotel tomatoes with chilies instead of fresh tomatoes. It was really good and had a lot of flavor. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks!

It's so easy that my 9 year old twins made it. It's very good except it needs a little more spice and more beans, Great and easy keeper.

Very yummy. I used ground bison instead of beef and added some extra olives and spinach. It's a keeper.

This was very good. I had left over chili with beans, so I used that instead of the first 2 steps. I also added guacamole and a little taco seasoning on top of the sour cream, and used flour tortilla shells instead of chips. But with all the changes, it still turned out great.

Fantastic recipe!! I did add about half a pack of taco seasoning, but I think it would have been just fine without it.

This is a great recipe. I did add the taco seasoning as suggested by others. I liked all three cups of the tortilla chips, they added great texture. I did use rotel instead of fresh tomatoes and yellow onion instead of green because that's what I had. The casserole was even better the next day as leftovers. Simple and easy. I made the Mexican rice pilaf from this site as a side dish. Delicious!

This was just ok with me, tasted like something was missing, and it might have been a seasoning or cilantro.

My family just loved this-the flavors (minus the olives) are amazing together. My family did, however, think it made a better dip than main dish. Next made it by adding a can of refried beans-a much loved item in our house. Third time will make it by layering with tortilla shells for a "mexican lasagna". Love it-thank you so much for a great recipe!

This dish is one of the favorites I love how easy it was to make, The only thing I added was cilantro, kinda to make more of a flavor but other than that delicious, the husband loved it

This is a different dish that add variety to my dinner menus. I think it was good but nothing really special. I used black beans instead of chilli beans. You can serve this with corn rice and avocado as side dish. I may make it again one day.

This recipe is such a great base for trying it a lot of different ways. Want it spicier, add chopped jalepenos. Have a lot of leftovers? Warm and scoop with chips the next day. We really enjoyed this and will be making it again. Thanks for the recipe!
