This is a good start for the base. But it needed more. With the beef I added ground pork. 3 cloves of garlic. I added one can of Pork & beans, instead of the kidney beans I used the bean medley. I put in 1/4C. of chili powder as a pinch is really not enough for chili. I also let mine simmer for just a bit over an hour to incorporate the flavors more. It turned out really good this way. Thx.

This is a good recipe for a chili base. We added a little more seasoning at the end because it seemed a little bland for our tastes. I will keep this recipe and maybe add some of our own likes to it (mushrooms, extra tomatoes, etc...). Thanks for the post!

This recipe gets four stars for flavor - it needs a bit of jazzing up, but definitely good for using mostly canned ingredients. However, I gave it a fifth star because you really can't beat this recipe for speed and ease. It took me about ten minutes to brown the beef and throw the rest of the ingredients in. For the flavor I get for 10 minutes worth of work, it's definitely worth 5 stars! I like that this recipe uses ingredients we normally have on hand. I wanted something fast, easy and hearty today and that's exactly what I got. I'll make a pan of cornbread and we'll have a fabulous dinner!

Easy and tasty! What more could you ask for? I made up a pan of buttermilk cornbread to accompany this, and it was a perfect quick meal for me and my friends.

won a chili contest with this! Made it spicier by adding more cumin, though it's all to taste. This is an incredibly easy recipe that is great on a cool fall day to winter, after trekking out to get your tree. My family also likes it with either cooked elbow noodles or cooked brown rice, and homemade cornbread. Very delicious.

WOW...I can't believe how easy this chili was to make and my husband and his friends loved it, they all had seconds!!! I did use fresh garlic and a sweet onion. This was my test pot, I am going to be making a huge batch of it for our house warming party this weekend. I will be putting this one in the keep box!! Happy cooking!!!!

I used left over steak and ground beef for the balance. Used balck beans vs. kidney. Overall quite tasty and certainly easy to make.

I absolutely love this recipe. It's simple and inexpensive to make, you can whip it up in minutes or let it simmer for hours. When I don't have fresh onion I use onion powder which turns out just as great. I also use diced tomatoes instead of stewed per my husband's preference. This one is a favorite, beats my mother-in-law's recipe. (Now if only I could beat her cornbread!)

Well iv tried the recipie as if before and its good ..but i got a bit experimental the other night. I added about 1/4 c more water, some sliced up velvetta cheese (cooked in not placed on top before serving), i also added chilli beans for a bit more spice and some red pepper spice and my bf and company loved it. It was good, although I had to make too many changes to the recipe to rate it any higher. I used alot more garlic and chili powder(1-2 tbsp) and I omitted the water completely(I like it thick and it was just too soup-like with the water in it). As the recipe is now it was very bland tasting.

This is the quickest thing I have made for dinner in a long time. However, I like my chili on the thicker side, and this chili was a little too watery. To solve this problem, I added half a can of tomato paste, and this made it perfect. I also added just a little extra chili powder because I wanted it to be a little spicier. Because I didn't have stewed tomatoes, I used canned diced tomatoes instead. They were just as good and gave the chili a nice flavor. I have already made this for dinner twice, and I plan on making it a staple in my recipe collection. It's great served with a portion of baguette.

Wow!!! This chili was GREAT. This was my first time EVER to make chili. I added a chopped green pepper and 2 cloves of garlic minced in the pan with the hamburger and onions.. I also used 1 tablespoon of chili powder.. This truly was better than any chili my family has ever had from any restaurant or family member.. Thank you so much.

This is one of the best Chili,s I have ever eaten. My 8 year old daugther loved it. The only thing I changed is a dash more Chili Power and added 1 pinch of Cumin. Have this with Jalapeno Corn Bread.

Really great tasting chili and so easy to make! My husband and I have always made the kind of chili you cook all day, but we had chili cravings this evening and decided to look for a quick and easy recipe. We doubled the recipe (except the meat... used about 1.5 lbs.) and added a can of Ro-tel to spice it up a bit. We'll make this often, thanks Tobi!
