This was a great quick weeknight meal. My husband loved it as much as when I would cook a roast in the crock pot all day for au jus sandwiches. I wish I new about this shortcut earlier! I sauteed some onions for our sandwiches and toasted the bread before putting the sandwiches together. That will help your bread from getting too soggy too quickly.

Really great recipe. We didn't have the beef consomme either so I added a couple beef bouillon cubes as someone else suggested. I also sauteed some onions on the same pan I made the sauce in to give it more flavor. Not quite restaurant flavor but still good.

All I have to say is, "meh." Yes, it's a great start, but it needs a little oomph. I sautee a diced shallot with a TBSP or two of butter beforehand, add a splash of merlot or red wine vinegar and finally combine it with the consumme. I serve it on demi-baguette. Equally as easy and DH loves it every time, even when reheated. ;)

Wow. This was soo easy - and soo delicious. My husband even said that it was better than Phillipe's (LA's "Birthplace of the French Dip"). I added some garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and butter to taste. I used Demi Baguettes and toasted them a bit in the oven before adding the meat and cheese. I also poured the au jus onto the bread, soaking it a bit, before putting it back into the oven to melt the cheese. Turned out DELICIOUS!

This recipe is my Friday night Monk and Psych watching meal. I have made this many times for my family and it is easy and so good. I have always loved french dip sandwiches, and I can't belive it never occured to me to warm up the meat in the au jus...so simple, but genius at the same time! The Beef consomme is a must--it taste way better than regular beef broth. Also, I like to add a sprig of rosemary and about a tablespoon of Dale's sauce (a kind of soy/worcestshire sauce blend). It will knock your socks off!!

This was so easy and quick, it's the perfect weeknight meal. And it was absolutely delicious, loved by both kids and adults! I looked high and low for consume at the grocery store and couldn't find it, so I used beef broth and added about 1 tsp of "Better than Boullion" to it and it was perfect. We loved the steak sandwich at Outback, so I used ciabatta bread instead of hogie-type rolls and it was absolutely wonderful. I would make this again in a heartbeat, and have recommended it to multiple people since having it!

Yummy and very, very quick! I added some carmalized onion before putting on the cheese! Very good. Also, used Campbell's beef broth and it was rich and did not need any other seasonings.

This was awesome! I did put in just a dash of garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh cracked pepper into the beef consumme'. This was better than most restaurants! It was a fast, easy, and tasty meal that we'll be making again. Thanks writergirl.
