Salty, blah! Tried adding sauteed onions and garlic to help "dip" Family was VERY disappointed!

I loved it, it's hand down the best quick French Dip Sandwich recipe. Additionally, it's better than any other of the 10 or so slow cooked recipes on this site that I've tried. The sandwiches were devoured in record time. I agree with others, that you could tweak it with herbs and spices, but its optional depending on your time frame and what's in you pantry. Double-strength beef broth works well in a pinch.

Love this! Super easy and delicious! Also added onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to the juice. Next time will try it with sauteed green pepper and onions.

Love it! Easy and delicious as is, but after making it a couple of times I prefer using french onion soup as the dip.

Excellent recipe. I bought a package of Au Jus mix instead of doing the consumme. Worked out great! This is one of my husband's favorite sandwiches, and he ate three of them! Simple, fast, easy, and delicious... it was everything I wanted!

This was very good, but needed more au jus! The comsumme is a must, I also added a couple dashes of Worstershire, garlic, onion powder, and some other seasonings I had sitting there. Next time I'll try it with Swiss.

So easy and satifying. CHANGES: I used mozzarella instead of provolone because thats what I had on hand. Used Portuguese rolls which came out nice and crispy. Added some fresh black pepper to the dip. Added green pepper to the sandwich.

My family loved this...I am giving it 5 stars as it was simple, quick, and tasty! I used premium Roast Beef (Boars Head) and followed the recipe . I added carmelized onions before broiling. this will definately become a family favorite!

This was a great quick weeknight meal. My husband loved it as much as when I would cook a roast in the crock pot all day for au jus sandwiches. I wish I new about this shortcut earlier! I sauteed some onions for our sandwiches and toasted the bread before putting the sandwiches together. That will help your bread from getting too soggy too quickly.

Really great recipe. We didn't have the beef consomme either so I added a couple beef bouillon cubes as someone else suggested. I also sauteed some onions on the same pan I made the sauce in to give it more flavor. Not quite restaurant flavor but still good.
