This is a terrific biscuit mix! I have used it three times over the weekend for biscuits and pancakes and find it to be a light fluffy biscuit, far superior to its commercial mix inspiration (which is w-a-y too salty!). I took a reviewer's suggestion and put it in the 3 lb shortening container which works well. The 10c amount is too big for the container but the excess was quickly used up! To clear up some confusion, I did not know what to do with the mix to make the biscuits so I found the bisquick site and here is what works well: BISCUITS 2 1/4 c mix 2/3 c milk Bake at 450 degrees and 12 mins (in my oven). PANCAKES 2 c mix 1 c milk 2 egs For more recipes, go to the www.bisquick.com website. The biscuits fluffed up about double in size and were absolutely delicious. Enjoy, and thanks Janet!

Simple and convenient in a pinch! I will also use to make low-carb mixes in the future.

I try to cook from scratch as much as possible, thanks to this recipe I will never have to buy biscuit mix!! I make it with butter and part whole wheat pastry flour.

Great recipe! It was quick and easy. However, in the beginning I did not realize that this was a "mixture" as it did mention. I scaled this recipe down to 4 servings, used whole wheat hi-pro flour, 1 tbsp of sugar, and added 1 cup of "soy milk" - that's it...and no yeast... My husband loved it too. This is definitely a winner. Went perfect with my soup. :-)

Good, although too sweet. I think that if you omit the sugar you have a 5 star recipe. Thanks!

I use this for everything! I no longer buy refrigerator biscuits and my husband doesn't mind. I use this just as I would Bisquick or any other store-bought biscuit mix.

I have no clue where I went wrong with this. I followed the recipe. My biscuits came out dense and mushy on the inside. They just wouldn't cook through. :( I think I'll try using it again just to make sure I didn't mess up the biscuit recipe I was using.

This is Awesome! It tastes and works the same as the "commerical" biscuit mix. I used it for cobbler and for biscuits-it worked perfectly!

Tasted much like bisquick, but better. I think I rolled my buscuits a bit too thin however..but it didn't change the taste.

We make quick breads regularly - waffles, biscuits and any recipes that call for baking mix, and knowing how to make this mix is very practical, and better than any commercial ones; I also add 1 cup buttermilk powder and mix it all together. I've made half a mix, using butter (they don't last as long though) oh boy .. yum. Thanks Janet; and I especially love it when I get to know a fave recipe's nutritional info. Good one.

We didn't get as many biscuits as the recipe said because we kept sneaking bits of dough-yum! We used it for a topping on pot pie (with basil added) and as regular biscuits. It is really yummy with butter instead of shortening and buttermilk for the liquid. For the person who said the recipe is missing something, milk or water: this isn't a biscuit recipe, it's for biscuit MIX, like bisquik. You can't just dump it in a pan and get biscuits! Use it like you would a mix, and you'll do fine.

I love this biscuit mix - but I found that I often have to add a little more than the recipe calls for (when it asks for the name-brand). Still - what a money saver!

I have allergies so was glad to see a from scratch (yellow box) mix. I used lard instead of shortening. I also used powdered milk with water as I had no fresh milk. I liked thease better than the box mix even with the powdered milk I used. Thanks much for the recipe, now I can enjoy the quick easy recipes again that call for (yellow box Biscuit mix)

This is the ONLY recipe we have ever rated a 5 because we have found that all recipes can be changed and improved. We have been buying Bisquick and spending approximately $5 on a large box. We even did the math and came up with us having spent approximately $3.05 to make this recipe which is about equivalent to a large box of Bisquick. Overall, the homemade baking mix actually did a BETTER job on pancakes (which is a big weekend breakfast treat for our kids) and did good on biscuits. Also did EXCELLENT on the Cheddar Bay Biscuits in Allrecipes. Only thing to keep in mind regarding biscuits is to not try to do half of the recipe for less biscuits. You need the whole recipe so your biscuits will be of a good size and thickness. Something else to keep in mind on this recipe: if you are fortunate enough to have a KitchenAid mixer we really recommend using it to prepare this mix. Use the wire wisk attachment and it is so easy to do. Only thing is unless you have a really large mixer bowl, would suggest preparing mix in half quantities so as not to get flour everywhere. ENJOY! Janet, we truly appreciate you sharing this recipe with us. What a find!

Excellent recipe. This may be old news to y'all, but I did it in my food processor. Sifted dry ingredients together. Chilled the shortening in the fridge till it was hard, then processed half of it in half the flour, did the other half, stirred together. So easy.

Super easy. I scaled for 3 cups, and had to increase the resulting shortening to 2/3 cup.

Where I live, you can't easily get packaged baking mixes. This is a wonderful and economical substitute. The biscuits are great, the pancakes just like they should be, and it works as well (or better, since you know what's in it!) in recipes.
