It just so happens that I had a bottle of beer on hand that I needed to use up. What better way than to make easy beer bread. I mixed the dry ingredients together omitting the onion powder (personal preference). Also I used fresh herbs, chopped, in place of the italian seasoning. I did go a little under a 1/4 cup of sugar, added a good size jalapeno pepper, diced with seeds, and I threw in a handful of mexican blend cheese. I only had a light beer on hand so its what I used for this bread recipe. I let it rise for 1 hour before pouring melted butter over the top of the bread. I baked the bread for 55 mins. What I had was a nice golden color beer bread with a crusty topping. The bread was buttery and moist (most likely due to the melted butter), not at all crumbly and dry. There were specks of green jalapeno peppers along with the yellow cheddar and mixed cheeses. The texture and smell of the "fresh" baked bread was wonderful. There was also a slight sweetness in the bread -very nice, not overpowering at all. The top of the bread gave a nice crunch with a buttery flavor. With this bread recipe you could certainly add other types of cheese, herbs, and different types of beer. This pairs well with a bowl of chili or hearty stew.
