Great recipe. I didn't add the cinnamon since my family is not big on cinnamon. Instead of water I used chicken broth (home made) and it added a lot of nice flavor. My kids loved this.

Bit bland. My company didn't like it, but I think with a little more cumin and some spice additions, it would be okay as a side dish.

Flavor combination is delightful! I used millet instead of rice, using water accordingly, not broth.

Two of us enjoyed as an entree with at least enough for lunch tomorrow. I added about 1/8 tsp cayenne and used a wild rice/wheat berry blend to give it more texture (which increased the cooking time). Served it with raw spinach and with yogurt mixed with mint. I'll definitely make this again.

Not a fair review, but here goes: I cooked the peas (about 1 c) along with some tumeric, s&p, garlic. Accidentally cooked them a little too long, so they got mushy and unstrainable. I decided to keep it separate from the rice, and added some chicken broth to it to make a thick soup. Was very yummy! I followed the directions for the rice, but used only a c. of rice (basmati), and 2 c. broth. Very nice taste.

Shem wasn't crazy about the peas - try with almonds, green peas and raisins next time

I was hoping for a more pronounced split pea taste, so next time I'm going to use more peas instead of rice. Maybe 1 cup of each. It smelled great and tasted very good, perfect for a side dish with Indian chicken.
