Wonderful! Even my picky dad and his fiance liked them. Took advice and starting cooking carrots first. Great way to use up rest of the bag of carrots when you need a partial bag for a recipes.

fabulous side dish...i wouldnt change a thing about the recipe. If you have any leftovers, they make great potato patties by shaping, dipping into flour and frying to a golden brown in a little butter.

I used the recipe exactly as it's stated on here and it came out fine. I paired it with steak and the flavors weren't all that good together. Everyone agreed, however, that the potoatoes were delicious.

Yum! We loved these. I added more sour cream than the recipe called for but that's just because I love sour cream!!!

Wonderful way to incorporate carrots into a mashed side dish for dinner. We love onions and the flavor was semi-reminiscent to that of perogies. I wish I had added a tad bit of salted butter and/or salt when cooking this dish.

This was a great dish! My kids do not normally like cooked carrots, but they ate this dish up. I washed the potatoes and pierced them in my big ceramic mixing bowl and threw the carrots in with them, covered them and cooked them in the microwave. I then mashed them as usual with butter milk and seasonings. It was a great accompaniment to Erika's Roast also found on this site!

We enjoyed these last night for the first time, and I would recommend them to anyone who loves mashed potatoes, and enjoys trying new flavor combinations. Thanks Perlene. The recipe stands well alone, but I added a good bit or oregano and dill, as the meat we were eating with it was seasoned in this manner. I would also recommend cooking the carrots separately; as they take longer to cook than the potatoes. I had to process them a bit before adding in. Overall, very good recipe.

my father makes "hutspot" - that's really dutch! he cooks the onion together with the potatoes and carrots, and just adds black pepper and salt. we eat it with meatballs or hamburgers, and pour gravy over it. yum! my hubby didn't like it that way, maybe i'll do it your way, although without sourcream and chives...

Actually this dish is a version of a very old recipe from Holland called"Hutspot".It was invented during the 80 year old war between Holland and Spain. There was no food besides some carrots, onions and potatoes and these were all mixed up.These days people eat it in the wintertime with bacon or sausage cut up in it with gravy.its very good that way!!

I thought this was a very unique dish but we all really liked the flavors in it. I loved that I was getting extra veggies in my kids (and husband) and my mashed potato loyalist hubby loved the flavor of these taters too! Thanks for sharing.

These were really good and simple to make. I didn't have any carrots, but I did have mushrooms, so I used those instead. I sauteed half of the mushrooms with the onions after about 5 minutes and then threw the other half in with the potatoes after about 8-10 minutes of boiling. I also didn't have any sour cream, only rice milk, so used a small amount of that to make the mashed potatoes a bit creamer and they turned out delicious!

I made this tonight for dinner with ribs. The kids were leery at first because of the color. I assured them they were good. After the first hesitant bite, they gobbled them down. My cheese lover insisted there was cheese in it. I used baby red potatos and didn't peel them first. I always just blend the peel right in. Since I didn't think about the carrot needing longer to cook, I had some small pieces of carrot in there too, but it was still very good. This is definately a keeper, and the name added some dinner conversation. "Mom, where are Dutch people from?" Thanks!

I didn't have carrots in the house but I thought this sounded so good I made it anyway! I did tweek the recipe a little. Doubled the potatoes, carmelized a whole small onion and added some garlic at the end. I also add chicken broth granules to my potato water (save it when you drain for thinning if potatoes are too thick). I didn't double the sour cream, just added to taste, but it and the carmelized onion really make this dish. We loved it! Thanks for a great idea!

I also added some garlic. This was a hit with the fam, even the veggie-hater. I observed him carrying the entire dish into his room later!
