I made this tonight for dinner with ribs. The kids were leery at first because of the color. I assured them they were good. After the first hesitant bite, they gobbled them down. My cheese lover insisted there was cheese in it. I used baby red potatos and didn't peel them first. I always just blend the peel right in. Since I didn't think about the carrot needing longer to cook, I had some small pieces of carrot in there too, but it was still very good. This is definately a keeper, and the name added some dinner conversation. "Mom, where are Dutch people from?" Thanks!

I didn't have carrots in the house but I thought this sounded so good I made it anyway! I did tweek the recipe a little. Doubled the potatoes, carmelized a whole small onion and added some garlic at the end. I also add chicken broth granules to my potato water (save it when you drain for thinning if potatoes are too thick). I didn't double the sour cream, just added to taste, but it and the carmelized onion really make this dish. We loved it! Thanks for a great idea!

I also added some garlic. This was a hit with the fam, even the veggie-hater. I observed him carrying the entire dish into his room later!

Sour cream is definitely the secret ingredient, in all recipes, not just this one. It adds a certain creaminess. I also added garlic to the onions in the pan. 8-10 minutes seems a little long to saute--I think 5 minutes is enough and watch it so it doesn't burn. Thank you! Very delicious.

These potatoes are fantastic! Saute your onions for the directed time so they can caramelize because this is where the main flavor is. I didn't have a problem mashing my carrots as others mentioned. If you went by the directions you should have been fine. I cut my carrot slices thin because I know they take longer to soften than the potatoes. These potatoes are definitely going into our dinner rotation, thanks a bunch!

SOOOO YUMMY!! I chopped up my carrots instead of slicing and they cooked up just fine. The sauteed onions give this such a great flavor! The only change I made was to DOUBLE the recipe :-)

Not good - they tasted just like plain old potatoes to me, and I couldn't get the carrots to mash so I had chunks of carrots throughout, definitely will not make again.

This was so easy and really really good! I added the bacon to it like some of the other users suggested and this quickly became a favorite at our house!

I sauteed onions and mushrooms in bacon fat. I left the potatoes and carrots cubed, too. I then mixed all ingredients, placed in a pyrex dish, sprinkled cheese on top, and baked for 10 minutes. Very good dish!
