"These waffles were originally made by my grandmother in a waffle iron on a wood-burning stove. The crispy golden waffles are special to me because, 40 years ago, I served them to my husband the first night I cooked in our new house."

Made these tonight and they were really good. These are tender, light and fluffy really everything a *good* waffle should be. I got three nice sized waffles out of this recipe. I added a little vanilla to the batter mixture and next time would add a couple tablespoons of sugar as I eat these plain. Definitely do not taste like a sugar cone but great nontheless! Thanks for a great recipe

Fantastic! These waffles reminded me of the flavor of the waffle cones my ice cream parlor sells (I added a couple of TBS of sugar). Definitely a standout recipe in flavor and appearance. Perfect for company. Thank you for sharing it.

You seriously can not go wrong with this recipe. Absolutely delicious and worth every second of the waiting. My son ate these up and was upset that I didn't make more. Followed the recipe exactly. Thanks for the post.

I've never made waffles before but your recipe turned out super good! It took me a while to figure out my waffle maker but once i did, they turned out nice and fluffy. I had two changes to the recipe...i didn't have whipping cream so i used half& half instead and i added a bit (less than 1/4 teaspoon) of vanilla extract. They turned out great! Thanks for sharing!

Update: I made this recipe a 2nd time and did not separate the eggs. The waffles were even higher and fluffy than the first time! There is no baking soda/pwdr in this recipe, so it uses egg power alone. This recipe is going in the front of my recipe box! Original review: This is a 5 star waffle recipe. It is a little time consuming to separate the eggs and make the meringue, but I had my 8yo hold the beaters until the egg whites got stiff (: The taste was wonderful, totally worth the extra effort! Enjoyed with whipped cream and butter pecan syrup. Thanks for the post!

Simply DIVINE!!! I followed the recipe almost exactly, except I added a couple Tbs of sugar and a few drops of vanilla, for the sweet tooth. I also didn't use 3 bowls. I mixed the egg yolks and cream together then sifted in the flour salt and sugar. Then in a small bowl, whipped the egg whites and then folded them into the mixture. So I used 2 bowls instead. So good! I loved the flavor and the fluffy-ness of them. I like how it didn't call for any butter or oil. For some reason it separates in my waffle maker and I get these pools of oil, which isn't appetizing. Super, super tasty. My waffle recipe from now on!

This recipe took at least 3 bowls... It seems quite complex the way it's written. I think the order of the recipe makes extra mess. The waffles came out fine and we enjoyed them but I will use a simpler recipe next time because this recipe just isn't worth the work for me. I did add tiny chocolate chips to some of the waffles and that was VERY fun.
