This is the most wonderful recipe for dumplings! Followed the directions exactly- let simmer an extra couple minutes with the lid on just to be sure. Better than the canned kind, and with the soup/broth mixture I used, it totally beat the chicken and gnocchi served at Olive Garden that I came to enjoy. Filling and tasty! I used the parsley flakes as suggested- superb! Never would have thought of that myself. Yum. Filled two dinner bowls perfectly. Thickened my soup as I'd heard it would from another reviewer, which I'm totally thankful for, especially since I didn't have any cream of chicken soup on hand like recipes using biscuits call for. The flavors went so well together. (Btw, I cheap-skated the soup for this: 1 can of chunky chicken noodle soup, picked out the spiral noodles, added 1 cup of chicken broth.) I'm calling my mother to tell her about this recipe right now! Thanks sooo much! I think this is my favorite food of all time now! :)

These remind me of when i was living at home and my mother would put dumplings in pork and saurerkraut. Was wonderful. Matter of fact i made that tonight and my new husband loved it. Thanks for sharing this recipe, was super good.

I hate when people rate a recipe after modifying it, but I don't think my change could affect it that much: I used 50% whole wheat flour, and .5tsp sugar -with a diabetic in the family I try and squeeze in as much fiber, and reduce the sugar as much as possible to whatever I cook. Otherwise all the same and these were delicious. I've never actually made dumplings before, and I thought I'd drop a couple into my stew last night. These were the perfect addition! One thing that caught me off guard is just how much they expand! There were a couple of two-bite dumplings before I got the hang of it.

Great recipe!! My husband likes fluffy, not chewy, dumplings & he is VERY picky. He LOVED these & so do I!! Fluffy & flavorful, not heavy & doughy tasting. I followed the recipe exactly except I left out the sugar.

These are the only dumplings I'll ever make. I use butter in the place of margarine but that is the only thing I do differently. Perfect recipe and one to pass on to my daughters. Love it.

These were very good and super easy! I used butter instead of margarine. When I dropped the dough into my broth I didn't think I had enough b/c it only made 6 dumplings. However, they cooked up to be 3x their original size and one per person was plenty!

I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out great! Couldn't have been easier. I think some who have a problem with them not holding their shape may have the pot on to high of a heat. Thank you!

These are just like grandma's. Very tender and have a wonderful flavor. I like to roll mine about a quarter of an inch thick and use a pizza cutter to cut into 1 inch squares.

These dumplings are super easy and taste really good. I have a pan of soup and dumplings on the stove right now, can't wait to chow down. They did thicken the soup I made yesterday, but that was good.

I made this with Red Mill wheat free flour and it came out great. I mixed some fresh basil with half the mixture and they are amazing. It added a little basil flavor to my beef stew and they made my broth a little more gravy like! YUM. This recipe is simple and easy, thanks so much for a great find!

After reading all the great ratings, I am disappointed that these did not turn out well. The dough was very sticky which made it difficult to make decent sized balls. I think melting the butter rather than adding it softened would help a lot. When I added the balls to the stew, they got stuck together and didn't cook all the way in the middle. The inside of the dumplings were crumbly (like a stale biscuit) and the outside did not mesh well with the stew's liquid. Oh well. I shall be looking for another recipe!

Lovely and light. I added a 1/2 tsp of garlic and 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese to these (in the dry ingredients) and also melted the butter and used room temp milk. The trick is not to over mix and never lift the lid. They were wonderful!!! I would definetly double or triple the recipe if serving more than 3 or 4 ppl.

Fantastic recipe. I've been using a recipe for years from "Company's Coming - Muffins and More" but thought I'd expand my horizons and checked here, found this recipe and was excited to try it. I thought I'd compare it to my old one first and to my surprise it's word for word identical :). I took one viewers advice and doubled the margarine, and they were perfect. I've never had so many compliments from my whole family even from a student we have visiting from Germany. Thanks!
