I was looking for a salsa recipe that would taste similar to my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant, and this one makes a great base. The first time I made it, I followed directions exactly, and it was very good. Then, I made a few changes to try to get it to match my favorite restaurant's. I had to use dried cilantro, because I didn't have any fresh available. I used about 1 1/2 Tbsp. And, I used about 3 Tbsp of lime juice. I also added a little black pepper. With these changes, I was extremely happy with the results. My husband said, "That's better than you can buy in the store!" :)

This salsa was awesome. It tasted just like my local Mexican Restaurant. Next time I will add a little sliced jalapeno for more spice.

I used fresh tomatoes and it was the best salsa I've ever had. My husband wanted it spicy, so he added pico de gallo spice to his and it was exactly what both of us were looking for.

Do not use canned stewed tomotoes if you want the home made mexican salsa taste. I used Hunts canned stwed tomatoes and it was too sweet for my taste. But I like the idea of using green chillis so thanks for giving me that idea.

I make mine really spicy using 1/2-3/4 cup of diced jalapenos and prefer to use whole peeled canned tomatoes. I also like the salsa a little thicker so I drain the canned tomatoes and add a small can of tomato paste. Great recipe, I always get compliments when I make it.

I didn't have green chiles so I used a whole jalapeno, half seeded. I love cilantro so added 1/2 cup. I also added a tsp of chili powder because it was definitely missing something without it. We liked it at this point, but my teenage son said he thought it still needed Hatch's diced tomatoes and chiles, so I added a heaping TBS of that. It was really good even before we doctored it to our tastes. Thanks!

I love this salsa, we make it all the time at my house. It is very versitile, we tinker with the ingredients every time we make it and it always turns out great.

Pretty good recipe. The first time i made this, it was a little bland for my taste (i like spicy salsa) and a little runnier than i like. This time when ni made it, i used canned diced tomatoes with chilis and onions (drained them before adding to my food processor). i also used a lot more cilantro, more garlic (about 3 cloves instead of only 2), more chilis (about 1/3 cup instead of 1/4) and more lime juice. It was much more flavorful this time. still, this recips is a great starting place if you like salsa more on the mild side.

I like this recipe, but I'd suggest using actual cheap fresh jalapeños rather than the massively, ridiculously mega-overpriced canned version. They're $3.29 for a tiny can here while fresh jalapenos are 49 cents a pound.

we have been making this recipe for years and i have not written a review yet(not good) this recipe for salsa in our all time favorites. i have used fresh and canned toms depending on what we have on hand. we dont think it makes that big of a taste differance. i use a small food processer to do the work. we always use extra cilantro, onion, garlic, and salt. its best if you let it set overnight for the best flavor. it seems to keep for a long time as well. try the salsa chicken from allrecipes.com with this salsa and serve it with the spanish rice II and you got yourself a yummy meal. be prepared for lots on great comments. thanks for sharing .

Very good! I used a 28 oz. can petite diced tomatoes, one sweet onion, two cloves garlic, juice of one lime and one bunch cilantro. Made about almost 6 cups. Will definitely make again, may try with crushed tomatoes next time.

VERY VERY VERY bland. I had to alter the recipe (after following it exactly, then trying other's changes) so much that its not really the same recipe any more! I'd look around for a different recipe before making this one!!

This is a delicious salsa. I made it almost exactly as written, except I added one minced jalapeno, seeded and ribs removed. I did drain the tomatoes, reserved the liquid, but didn’t end up using any. I placed all the ingredients in the blender, stirred it a bit with a big spoon, and then blended it, literally, for 2-3 seconds. It was perfect. Not too chunky, not too smooth/runny. Better than any of the jarred salsas by far and too easy not to make your own.

I followed the recipe and used 7-10 fresh salsa tomatoes. The only thing I changed (which gave it just the right kick) was using 1/2 poblano pepper and 1 whole serano pepper choppped in it. Delicious!

Great recipe! I use 2 cans of diced tomatoes with chiles in place of the stewed tomatoes & can of chiles as others suggested. Turned out perfect! This has become a staple at our house. Thanks for the great recipe!
