This was fantastic! I shredded the apples like what was suggested in the recipe. I saw that some people had problems getting it to get soft, so i upped the heat for about 15 min to medium, and let it bubble. I also added in the brown sugar and let it cook with the apples for the second half of cooking. I served in a bowl with some fat free redi whip on the top, and it was fantasic. Definatly will make this again!

My Mom always made homemade applesauce the same way. In the fall when the apples on the tree in our yard were ready she would make huge batches of this and can it. I make it the same way and it's truly delicious. Much better than store bought applesauce and kids just love it. You don't really need to shred the apples. Just slice them and cover the pot while cooking over low heat, stirring often. When the apples are mushy just mash the mixture with a potato masher.

I added Red Hots to give it some extra kick and color. I added the candy about 10-15 minutes after it started cooking so it could melt completely. It was wonderful! Also, after I cut the apples into smaller chunks (about 1/2 inch cubes), I ran it through a food processor to puree it a bit.

Great taste! However I ran into the same issue as some of the other reviewers. I don't know how thin some of you shredded you're apples but using a normal grater size and an hour of cooking I still wasn't able to get the apple to blend well. I eventually turned off the stove let it cool down a bit and placed it in my food processor. I doubled the recipe and did not modify anything. It was such a basic and simple recipe! When I make this again I would defenitiy scale it a lot bigger then double so that I would have some leftovers after two people had some. I am looking forward to using this recipe again soon and experimenting with different types of apples.

This recipe is absolutely delicious! The only thing that I changed was to add less cinnamon as suggested by the previous reviewers. Thank you for sharing!

I just love apples and cinnamon together and this was a perfect recipe! I recommend not to use too sweet apples so the mix of sour and sweet compliment each other. Yummy!

The flavor was good, but I could not get it to turn from shredded apples to apple sauce - even after cooking for about 1 hour.

The applesauce was very tasty...the only drawback for me was that it turned very brown due to the cinnamon & brown sugar, and my pickyish six yr old wouldn't eat it. But our 99 yr old Pop scarfed it up, saying "Well this is just plain good!" as he sopped it up with a biscuit...CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT I GUESS!!!

I had some apples that weren't going to get eaten but I didn't want to throw them away. I prorbaly used more apple than the recipe called for and I used brown sugar instead of white. This was the best tasting applesauce I have ever eaten. Now I don't have to throw away apples. I can make this instead. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.

It was very simple to do and I had everything on hand. I didn't add the cinnamon and only added a little brown sugar as I don't like it to sweet. I also put it in the food processor as I don't like it chunky. All in all a good recipe and both my daughter and I enjoyed it. Will make this again for sure.

This was fabulous, the only change I made was I added a little more sugar since the Granny Smith apples I used were extra tart. It is by far the easiest and tastiest applesauce recipe I've made. Thank you for submitting it!
