This is my first time making this and boy am i impressed! My boyfriend has actually never had homemade chili before and he about had a heart attack trying to tell me how great it was! I made exactly as stated except i added a clove of minced garlic and a little extra chili powder. Im gonna look into chili competitions because this one is a winner! So easy to make and it tastes exactly the way chili should. Thank you, i will definitely make again! =]

This is wonderful. I have made it twice now just like recipe says. Best part with the left overs it makes a great chili dog.

Just made this using 16 oz of Herdez Hot salsa (product of Mexico) and the Chili Seasoning II recipe from this site. Best chili I've ever made! It was spicy enough for me (and I also love the Habanero Hellfire chili recipe from this site), but mild enough for the wife (who gave up on the Hellfire chili after a single bowl). We made Grandmother's buttermilk cornbread (also from this site) to serve with this. For now on this is the recipe I'll be using for chili!

We loved this chili but the next time I make it I will cut back on the chili seasoning just a bit. It was a little spicey for my taste.I served it with grandmas corn bread from AR.

Loved it! Simple. I made this for 50 people and there was not one complaint. Everyone loved it! The only thing I will adjust in the future is the amount of pepper and I will substitute the garlic salt with real crushed garlic; adding it to the meat while browning. Try it - you will love it too!

Very easy and very tasty. I substituted the ground beef for "ground beef" made out of veggie crumbles. I used two 12-ounce packages (typically found refrigerated in the produce department) and it turned out fantastic. The veggie crumbles don't need to "brown" for ten minutes, so begin by sauteing the onions for 6-8 minutes and then throw in the "ground beef." I also made the Blue Corn Cornbread recipe from this site to accompany- amazing!

Five stars for how easy this is! It's a very good basic chili. I thought it might taste too much like tomato sauce since it calls for 2 1/2 cups, but that was not the case. I made it as is and really liked it. You can adjust the spice, heat, sweetness, etc. based on your preference (and based on what type of chili seasoning and salsa you use). I used Herdez mild salsa and McCormick Chili seasoning.

the way a person likes thier chili is very different from one individual to another, I think. But this is a great simple recipe. I've made lots of chili recipes, and I find the complicated ones just aren't worth the time at all. The only thing lacking is diced tomatoes, but I made the recipe exactly - figuring I could change it once I tasted it. But it doesn't need any changes, I really like it without the tomatoes. I used Pace salsa (will try a better brand next time, I'm not a fan of Pace, but figured I should stick to the recipe) and McCormick Chili seasoning. I'll be making this in the crock pot frequently this winter!

Fantastic! I threw everything into a crockpot and let it simmer on low all day, just because I was feeling lazy. I also substituted 2 garlic cloves, and threw in 2 cans of tomato sauce, 16 oz of salsa, and a full can of drained dark and light kidney beans. I will be making this again!! Thanks!

AWESOME RECIPE. As a newlywed currently living with my in-laws, I find it difficult to cook for 6+ people (the bro-in-law brings friends over frequently), three of whom have to follow special low-starch diets, and still have downtime, and this recipe is perfect! I adjusted for 8 servings, used a half-pound more beef than the recipe called for, added an extra couple cans of beans, and used a whole 16oz jar of Mrs. Renfro's Roasted Salsa. My husband and new family loved it, the mother-in-law could actually eat it, and there was enough to pack for the husband's lunch for days afterwards. Grade-A recipe!

Now I love making chili!! This is so easy to throw together, that I make quadruple batches and put it in the freezer for my husband to take to work. I've taken it to family gatherings and been asked for the recipe. We serve it with a dollop of sour cream and some shredded cheddar. Yum! Great served with camp cornbread.
