With so few ingredients, and many of them "run of the mill", I was concerned that this may turn out to be just okay. I followed the recipe as it was written. This is the BEST chili around! I let it simmer for a few hours on the stove. I served it with fritos, shredded cheddar and green onions. I can't wait to try it with cornbread.

I loved this recipe, my wife did not. It was so quick and easy so I give it 4 stars. I made it again, but with my own home made salsa and she loved it. Avoid the Pace Picante if you can and use the best salsa you have.

Growing up my best friend's mother made the best chili. Whenever she made it he'd call me (and the 3rd in our trio) and we'd find an excuse to come over right before dinner. This is almost exactly her recipe. To make Mrs. Smith's chili follow this recipe, but use pinto beans in place of the light kidney beans. Also, use one whole red onion sauteed with some minced garlic, a 1&1/2 teaspoons of cumin, and black pepper to taste. YUM YUM YUM.

This is a really good recipe. The salsa added a great depth to the overall flavor. Only thing was, I didn't know if I should use the beans AND the juice they were in. The bean liquid looked kind of goopy, so I used beef broth for a little extra liquid.

This was even a hit with my fussy 3 year old! I used mild salsa and it was absolutely delicious. I made my own chili seasoning because I couldn't find it at the store: 2 tbsp. chili powder 1 tbsp. seasoned salt 2 tsp. cumin 1 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. onion powder 1/2 tsp. garlic powder I added pureed sweet potatoes at the end (my son had no idea) and served it with brown rice -- made a really well balanced meal.

Ive tried many chili recipes..many on here, many from friends. This is by far the best chili Ive ever had. It really does resemble Wendys Chili. I had no chili seasoning mix so I made my own using the chili seasoning recipe on here. Instead of tomato sauce, I used a can of stewed tomatoes. I added a can of mushrooms, chopped bell peppers for colour, chopped celery and 3 cloves of garlic. I also simmered the whole thing for 1.5 hours. Absolutely delicious!!

Hubby, who is VERY PICKY, begs me to make this every week!! I'm making it tomorrow for our monthly BUNKO at our house. I am going to do it in the crock pot this time though. I did add 2 whole 16oz cans of Tomato sauce, and a big can Hunts Diced tomatoes with Basil and Oregano. Even with that it's still a bit thick. You really can't go wrong with this easy easy recipe. Oh and I used Lawrys Chili Seasoning!! It's just TOO EASY not to make!!

OMG!!! This is fantastic!! I made with 2#-85/15 Ground Turkey. I was hesitant because of the salsa...but what a great flavor chili!!! Thank you so much!! I am making this next weekend to feed 100 people in a prison ministry for incarcerated youth that I volunteer with. They will love this recipe with cheese and sour cream on top. And home made Corn Bread on the side with Honey Butter. God Bless!!

Excellent! I made a few changes: increased salsa to 16 oz jar medium chunky style, 1 full packet chili-o mix, and 1 small can V-8 juice. Used slow cooker and cooked on high for 1 hr, then reduced to low and cooked all afternoon stirring occasionally. Very pleased with result! Leftovers made great chili spaghetti.

Very good recipe, although we made a few changes. I subbed 1 lb soy crumbles + 1 can garbanzo beans for the ground beef, and used diced tomatoes (Rotel) with 2 cups tomato sauce. Next time, I will use way less pepper and just use more kidney beans instead of garbanzo beans, and I will use more tomato sauce. Overall, very yummy and filling. Great fall food.

What a fantastic chili! I eyeballed the chili powder and added a little cornstarch before it finished cooking. Simmered almost 2 hours total and served with Buttery Corn Bread from this site. Perfect combination of spicy & sweet! This recipe was so easy to follow, I already had most of the ingredients in my cupboards. This will be a staple as the weather continues to get colder!

Made per directions by first time chili "rookie"--and wow!! I made a BLUE RIBBON tasting recipe that had that simmering low to medium "nice heat" to it!!! Works very well w/ some "jazzed up" cornbread!! This one's a 5-star keepter.
