I made these last night and found that I needed to cook them for an extra 10 minutes to cook them through. They are tasty but I do think they need less sugar, they are very sweet even without the powdered sugar sprinkled on top (definitely does not need that!). I will make again with less sugar (maybe 1.5 cups and reduce down from there) because they are good and a nice little treat relatively guilt free. I also used one cup ww flour, 1 cup reg flour, and subbed some unsweetened coconut for some of the walnuts. I also added a bit of pumpkin pie spice because I wanted some of that cinnamon-y clove-y taste. My husband hated them, but he has an aversion to healthy foods. My two year old liked them.

I made these for the first time today, and thought they looked beautiful coming out of the oven. I tried them and thought, so-so. But since then I've eaten about a hundred of them - they are completely addictive! Chewy, not too sweet, and I really love that they have almost no added fat (other than the eggs, of course). I will definitely be making these again and again. Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. Great with ice cream, too. Served them for dessert tonight and everyone loved them.

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR DATE NUT BARS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THIS ONE SOUNDS LIKE WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY ON DEC. 30,2004. SHE USED TO BAKE THESE BARS EVERY CHRISTMAS AND I LOVED THEM. I ALWAYS INTENDED TO GET IT FROM HER, BUT I JUST NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT. I AM SO VERY "GRATEFUL" TO YOU FOR HAVING THIS RECIPE AVAILABLE. I AM NOW A HUGE FAN OF ALLRECIPES.COM. THANK YOU SO MUCH, DONNA M.

Delicious!! I've made this a few times and use 2 cups of whatever combination of dates, figs, raisins, dried cherries, etc that I have on hand. If using more moist fruit like dried plums, you may want to cook it a little longer- mine came out very gooey. If you like dried fruit, this is the recipe for you!! Fantastic!!

I love these! They are chewy and wonderful. I sprinkled powdered sugar over them, and I think I will leave them without next time, as they are plenty sweet on their own.I will make these again, for sure. I also will play with this recipe and add other kinds of fruit and maybe some coconut, as another reviewer suggested. These are easy to make and wonderful :)

The "base" of this recipe is perfect as is, thus the five stars. When I happened to make them, however, we had an excess of raisins on hand and also my oldest son had been lobbying hard for something with coconut, so I added some of both. Heaven. Absolute heaven. Every single person in our extended family insisted that I HAD to write this recipe in the hard copy cookbook and promise to make it OFTEN! (And if you knew my family, you would know that the chances of winning the lottery are better than all of them even liking something, much less raving about it!) Again, the basic flavor of this bar is amazing. So feel free to experiment with additions and combinations with confidence -- I can't imagine a dried fruit or a nut that wouldn't be delicious in it.

I have made these bars twice; once with 2 cups of sugar and once with 1 cup of sugar. I think these bars are delicious both ways, but if you prefer a crunchy top make this recipe as stated. These bars keep well and are delicious with coffee or tea. I am sure you will enjoy them.

I made these vegan-style for my mom and sister, and they loved them. I just used egg replacer and a banana for the egg and unsalted margarine for the butter. Yummy and very different!

Very good. My Dad loves date nut skillet cookies at Christmas, but they were so hot that they burned my hands last Christmas. This looked like most of the same ingredients and he really liked them. Thank you!
