The Original Donair From the East Coast of Canada

Try this recipe when you find yourself too far away from a corner pizza place in Halifax. Slices of spicy beef loaf are served on pita bread with the creamy, sweet and tangy sauce you expect. Favorite garnishes are chopped onions and fresh diced tomatoes.

Donairs are a delicacy prevalent in the Canadian east coast, and certainly centered on the City of Halifax, the are very simple to prepare and very delicious. Fried meat slices are sandwiched in a pita round with tomato, onion, and of course, the famous Donair Sauce. Make a double batch of the meatloaf, and freeze the second loaf for later, if fact the second loaf will be better! When cold you can slice it thinner and fry up the slices in the frying pan as you need them.

If your family dislikes tomato based meatloaf like mine does then this is the meatloaf for you! Sour cream and onion dip keeps the meat moist and it is served with a delicious sour cream and mushroom sauce. My family usually adds a bit of Cajun seasoning blend since we Louisianans like our food spicy. This recipe just might change your family's mind about meatloaf!

A great meatloaf that is easy to prepare. It is very yummy. My husband asked me if I'd remember how to make it. I said no, so he made me write down how to make it so I wouldn't forget. My picky 4-year old likes it.

This is the most moist, fabulous tasting meatloaf--everyone loves it! The Hoisin sauce is available in the Oriental Food Section of the grocery store... it is like cross between soy and ketchup, and makes a wonderful glaze for this moist meatloaf. We love this dish. Very moist. Serve with rice and steamed broccoli. A wonderful dinner. Leftovers make great sandwiches.

'My husband, Wayne, asks for this meat loaf all the time,' reports Edna Lauderdale of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 'We like it spicy, so we use hot sausage rather than mild. Slices are terrific drizzled with ketchup, served with mashed potatoes and gravy, or in meat loaf sandwiches the next day.'

A savory, moist homestyle meatloaf that includes cornbread crumbs, corn, jalapenos, pepperjack cheese, onion, garlic, and more. This is a mild, yummy version that nicely balances the ingredients -- you can easily fire it up and customize the amounts and ingredients to suit your taste.
