Directions

  1. Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef, onion, and garlic in the hot pot until ground beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Mix chili powder, cumin, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper into ground beef.
  2. Stir tomatoes, hot chili beans, chili beans, tomato sauce, green chile peppers, jalapeno peppers, lime juice, and hot sauce into ground beef mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors blend, at least 30 minutes.

Cuddle Up Chili Haiku: "Pretty good chili. Glad I halved recipe. It still made a ton!" I kept the 1 lb. of ground beef, but halved everything else, along with using some garden jalapenos instead of canned, and we liked it, but found that there were too many competing flavors in its ingredient list. No question, it was a tasty chili, but one that I would make some adjustments to when making again, such as reducing, if not eliminating, some of the seasonings.

My husband and I liked this chili. He thought it needed thinning down some, but that's easy enough to do. I followed the recipe except for omitting the jalapenos because I am a wimp with hot things. He would have loved the addition, though. Instead, he added chopped jalapenos and extra cayenne to his personal bowl.
