Using a water roux -- a paste of hot water and flour that rests overnight -- helps this white yeast-risen bread retain moisture, and creates a fluffy, soft loaf. It's a technique used in China and Japan for a long time, and it gives the bread a silky texture.

This is identical to the cracker bread sold at delis in large grocery stores that costs six dollars for three big rounds. You can make it for pennies! I fell it love with it as an appetizer with Harvarti cheese melted on it but with the price of the cheese and lavash we didn't have it much. Make sure you roll the dough VERY thin, almost see-through.

These are by far the best rolls I've ever had! My neighbor's mom makes these and passed the recipe along. They are scrumptious! This recipe makes a lot of rolls. You can freeze the dough after forming into rolls.

This recipe for Hard Do Bread (hard dough bread) is similar to the one sold in West Indian stores. It's a simple white bread that's just slightly sweet.

Hot Water Cornmeal Bread

If you like to bake in bulk, this recipe is for you. A small amount of cornmeal soaked in hot water turns to mush, which is incorporated with molasses and standard yeast bread ingredients to make several loaves of bread and quite a few dinner rolls.

Simple White Bread

There 's no waiting for the yeast to proof, and no blending a little of this, and then a little of that. Just mix the ingredients together all at once -dissolved yeast, powdered milk, oil, flour, and so on -knead the dough and away you go!

This recipe took first-place honors 7 consecutive years at our local fair. My relatives rave about this bread and its pleasant subtle ginger flavor.
