These light, airy fried pastries are a huge part of 'Carnevale' in Italy and a favorite holiday treat for Italian-Americans. Originally from the Veneto region of Italy, this recipe has been handed down from generation to generation.

Thumbprint cookies with a delicious filling, these are perfect for Christmas. Does not use eggnog, but they have an eggnog taste. You can substitute 1/4 teaspoon rum extract and 1 tablespoon milk for the rum.

This is in response to Carol's request for what she called 'Futimonbuckles' but in Norwegian - Fattigmann Bakkels would sound the way she spelled it. This is a very old recipe that dates back over a 100 years and actually means 'Poor Man's Cakes'.
