Original Recipe Yield 4 dozen
 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 2 cups crisp rice cereal
  • 1 cup shredded coconut

Directions

  1. Mix, flour, salt and soda together. Cream shortening until fluffy; add both kinds of sugar gradually, beat until smooth and creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one.
  2. Stir in vanilla and flour mixture; add cereal, oats, and coconut.
  3. Form into small balls and place on greased cookie sheets and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
